I'm trying a new mingling, and liking it a lot. WT 81 and OGD 80 proof, 50-50. This particular OGD had (as most current bottles in my experience) a heavy Beamy yeast-like hit, so strong I couldn't drink it on its own. (A Baker's bought recently had the same taste yet one bought a few months ago in Florida had not a whit of it, by my lights).

The WT is quite corny, apparently 6-8 years from what I read here and there about it but it tastes younger to me.

The mingling cuts back on the WT oiliness - the buttered popcorn taste as many people might call it - quite a bit. Somehow the orangey-funky Beam taste disappears into the corn, or mostly, and you are left with a more complex, deeper, smoother yet sharper new taste, almost like adding more hops to give a brew more backbone.

The blend is an easy sipper and I can't imagine anyone here wouldn't like it.

Kinda worn out after a round of disc golf with my daughter's significant other. Eying my bottle of Breckinridge. Seems like as good a starting point as any...

Old Tub with a single cube, seemed to dilute some of that Beam Funk and was actually fairly enjoyable.

Healthy pour of SB blend on a 1" cube in a MM rocks glass. Seated on my back porch under the ceiling fan dog laying next to my chair and we are listening to John Lee Hooker's "One Bourbon". Damn near perfect.

Yessir. Sounds damn near perfect. Enjoy!

I've moved on to a 4R Single Barrel over a couple of cubes, and thinking I need to head out back to the patio. Better for a nappy back there. :D

Typically, only drink on the weekends, so finishing off this weekend albeit lightly with a few smaller pours in my Buffalo Trace tasting glass. A little Blanton's followed by FRSB. Both, neat of course! Just wanting a taste and to savor the flavor.

Bulleit 10 yr - haven't had this in awhile and the air has really rounded off a sharp edge or two. Much more body mid-palate.

Are there any discernable Four Roses notes in that whiskey, sutton? I've never been the hugest Bulleit fan but I really like Four Roses so I'm wondering if I'd like the Bulleit 10. I haven't heard the greatest things, nice to see a little airtime is bringing it together.

Cool. How does it compare to the private selections that you've had? Compared to the current standard bottles it's definitely darker and richer.

I'm no expert on Four Roses' recipes and which one this supposedly would be. The regular Bulleit bottling I had a couple of years ago, although I did like it, I found it a bit thin. The 10 year is certainly richer, lots of dried fruit, an orange note that reminds me of OGD for some reason, and an assertive spice presence that seems to ping pong between rye grain and barrel in origin; it is very well integrated with a nice finish that isn't overly dry.

The question is price - at $47-$50, you can get your pick of the Four Roses' recipes from TPS and I have been looking those over. I actually bought this Bulleit bottle on impulse as it seemed like a quick way for me to get my hands on a 10-yr to try. To me, it is a big improvement over the standard Bulleit.

Thanks to a fellow member, I've been sipping on a dusty Old Charter 12 year this weekend. Very easy drinker...

revisiting my freshly opened bottles of ER101 and FC8, did not really get to appreciate them last night with all of the other pours I was enjoying.

I've had a lot of trouble finding Ritt BIB and Baby Saz recently and have wanted rye more often. It's awful. First world problems. I love the HW stuff but don't usually want to splurge for $50. What should I get that's widely available to tide myself over.

Dude I see Ritt BiB at every LBarn in Lexington.

Really?!? They haven't had it at the two I always go to and I haven't seen it for a few months.
