Cracked open a new bottle of Henry McKenna BIB tonight. Not sure why I haven't been drinking more of this, it really checks all of the boxes for me. Thanks be to Heaven Hill.

another comparison between FC and Charter 101, after all that class reading.

yeah, Charter is still better to me. richer and without the HH taste

Little side-by-side of Ezra B single barrel, Ec12, and EWSB. Thinking about bringing out the Fighting Cock and VSOF for some further researchin'.

Definitely see some familial resemblances. This Ezra B 12 year definitely outclasses this particular bottle of EC12, but isn't quite in the same league as the refined, fairly complex EWSB. I get much more wood astringency from the EB12.

This is one of the first whiskies I've encountered that seems to get hotter with a drop or two of water.

Magical how you like something so much more when you put a decent amount of it down. Seriously though, as the first whiff indicated, this is a pretty good bottle. The hints of rummy richness seem to emerge more as I contemplate it.

Interesting - I thought my bottle of EB SB was drier, but I didn't get astringent (which I read as bitter tannin) - I thought my EC12 had more wood influence on the finish than the EB ...

A friend, who spent a day dusty hunting in Japan when he was there on business, sent me a few samples from his finds. First up is Very Olde Saint Nick 24 year old bourbon. Given the age, I was expecting it taste like a 2x4, but the wood is largely in check, there is a nice rich sweetness that shines through, and the finish goes on forever. According to my friend, this particular bottle had been on the shelf for over 10 years, which means my odds of actually getting one might be slim, but I'll be on the hunt for some of these old KBD foreign releases when I'm Japan in a couple months.

I'm enjoying some dusties, too! First pour, a WT80 from 1993. Second pour, a Mattingly & Moore from 1980. I've been tasting current wheaters lately (MM, Larceny, OWA, W12) and these old soldiers blow 'em all away. I have to give the edge to WT80, with a bigger mouth feel, more caramel and spice.

If you like the 1993 WT80 then you need to pick up that Old No. 8 (from 94?) that I told you about (if you haven't already). I love me some vintage Turkey.

I have two good friends that live in Japan and everytime I get mildly tipsy my mind goes wild about having them pick me up some of the crazy stuff that is available there. Fortunately they're both a little flaky and I'm pretty broke so temptation has remained (mostly) at bay (so far). :smiley_acbt:

I have a freezer full of blueberries so I'm boiling down a few pounds of them for a blueberry syrup. I'm dreaming of bourbon blueberry drinks, so some serious experimentation will be going down tonight with some decently priced ~100 proof pours that will go into the drink. Planned: OGBBIB and Old Forester Signature. I wish that Four Roses YL had just 10 more proof points, I imagine its beautiful floral/honey thing might be good in this.

I'll see if I can bring 'em down to the 'going rate' (assuming it's still there). That Old #8 was much darker than the others I've seen around here.

A nice little pour of Booker's for me tonight. Tasty and sweet. A nice BP diversion from ECBP which is my "go-to" BP right now.

A few pours of ETL. I think this might just be my favorite bourbon I've had in my brief bourbon experience.

Should I bother telling you I think it crushes Bookers.....

I'm drinking on some ETL Barreled for Capital City Package (#8 on Whiskey Advocate Summer Bourbon List)

It really is a special Bourbon, Drinking it neat now but may try the next one with a little water.

as someone who loves bookers i must agree

much more wood in ECBP but those layers of gooey fudge fire deliciousness seems like it'd be something 393foureyedfox would like.
