WAINWRIGHT
I didn't go in expecting much. I am very impressed with it! Solid, solid pour. Very little heat for the proof. Sure tastes older then four years to me.Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 2Told ya!Pretty damn tasty for a sub $20 bottle, probably should have hauled back more.
Pieface
I love these threads where some of the truisms of several years back are overturned by tasters with an open mind. Good stuff lads
Pikesville
It's a very solid QPR pour. Enough umph to stand up in mixed drinks, not bad on the rocks, and at this price you won't feel guilty about mixing up a bourbon and ginger on a hot day. After a round of gold yesterday afternoon in steamy 98 degree heat I had a JBW on the rocks in the Clubhouse. Very tasty and very refreshing on a hot day. Obviously there are folks that can detect Beam at 1000 yards and run away but I bet a lot of folks that don't like JBW because they were told they should not like JBW would have enjoyed it. It would not have been that great neat, but over ice it was real tasty.

I think Maker's is really quality stuff. I think it's the bourbon snobs that miss out..the great unwashed masses that swear by it and have their Ambassador Cards (l have mine) regularly are ridiculed but it is the snobs missing out on good bourbon. Fine with me.. I actually MM neat. It isn't challenging, but has a great mouthfeel, not too sweet, great finish.I'd love to give OF BIB a whirl but I have never seen it in Texas. Gonna have to look harder. Sounds like decent stuff for $15.
smknjoe
It's really hard to find around here, but I have seen it in one or maybe two stores. I think the last place I saw it was Drinks Liquor on HWY6....and I'm not too good to drink Jim Beam either. For $15 it's a good mixer or even straight in a pinch. nblair
This thread prompted me to pick up a bottle last night. Not as bad as I expected. I can find redeeming qualities in both Old Fitz BIB and Weller Reserve. Doing a 50/50 blend for a 95 proof "SW Blend" might take the cake. It only had a few hours to marry, though. I'll give it time. White Dog
Available all over the great state of Wisconsin. I feel that it's improved over a couple years ago, or maybe I'm just sick of not having enough wheaters on the shelf. Either way, I grab this over Larceny. Yeah, I said it. Yeah, I said it.I'm glad someone on the board finally agrees with me,I could never lock horns with the Larceny and just always felt that the yeasty/twang was never agreeable with the wheated profile.I have tried to love the Larceny and just can't,I am just glad the Fitz fits the bill and I can keep a little change in my pocket at the same time. WhiskyRI
Old Fitz BIB has become a favorite summer friend on the rocks. I've turned quite a few people onto it. It's not the most complex bourbon in the world but $13 a bottle it might be the cheapest BIB out there, tastes great on the rocks in the summer and it is darn easy on the wallet. If I don't tell people the price they are really surprised by the relative taste/value. And I keep trying my larceny and it hasn't won me over. My bottle is still 2/3 full and I find myself reaching for Old Fitz before Larceny. Not sure why. Maybe it's the heat and humidity. Oh well in the interest of research I'll keep trying.... theglobalguy
Slight thread drift, but recognizing ABV is not directly related to cost, why would Old Fitz 1849 (90 proof) be more expensive than the BIB? Am i missing an age statement somewhere on the bottle?

qman22
PA doesn't carry any Old Fitz, so I've never tried it. I'll have to keep an eye out for it next time I'm traveling. I don't care for larceny, so I'm kind of curious to see if I like this better.

I don't care for larceny, so I'm kind of curious to see if I like this better. It's been a few months since I finished off my first-and-only bottle of Old Fitz Bonded, but I'm currently going thru a bottle of Larceny.... and from my vague recollection, I'd say Old Fitz Bonded is a more intense version of Larceny. Especially in regard to the 'nutty' flavor a lot of people detect, so if you don't enjoy that aspect of Larceny, I wouldn't get your hopes up on Old Fitz (but obviously still go try it!) Personally, I'm looking forward to giving the Old Fitz another shot... Bonded wheater for $14 isn't such a bad deal.
boneuphtoner
This thread inspired me to take the plunge for Old Fitz BIB when I saw it go on sale recently. I'm sure glad I did. Very rich and sweet, but not too sweet, with just a hint of char. The sweetness reminds me of candy corn. Excellent mouth feel. I like it better than Larceny, but not by that much. Overall, my first impression is very positive. I have to admit I avoided this one for a couple of years after seeing so many negative reviews on this site. Either I got a great bottle, and y'all didn't, or my taste buds are just plain different from y'all.
suntour
Though I have not tried the BIB, I must agree with your general sentiment. I've been amazed at how good my bottle of Very Old Fitz has been, gave it to a friend last night who adores wheaters and he went and immediately bought himself a bottle (can't get Weller 12 in Oregon). The price keeps people away but I'd love to see more talk of the new VOF.
mosugoji64
The last bottle of VOF I had wasn't bad, but not worth the price. However, I've recently picked up bottles of Larceny and OF 1849 and enjoyed them quite a bit. It seems that HH is getting a handle on their wheated bourbons and I wouldn't mind giving VOF another try.
