I have often wondered how many of us have gone back to a bottle months or even years later and were overly disappointed.I have repurchased a great many of bottles I thought were epic at the time, only to be overly disappointed at a later date.I would love to hear your thoughts, whether it be lack of notes, palate change or even an unknown influence of the time.I want this to be as unbiased as possible without my influence from the start as a lead off,so post away.

Are you talking oxidation...or buying a second and finding it pales in comparison with the 1st?

If you mean 2nd, the WR Double Oak was a shocker, 1st one i liked. It had that copper taste, but i was new to bourbon. Then BAM! 2nd bottle made me shake my head.

Well then let me repeat my WR Double Oak and add a Old Forrester Signature. Just must have been mad the first time. Second i couldn't love and turned into marinade.

Nothing Bourbon springs to mind but I can say marrying the same woman twice is a mistake.

I've got a friend that has done that three times. Still going strong the last ten years but he does drink a lot.

I've had that with KC SB. The one I purchased from TPS just didn't do it for me. I had liked it before but I'm having trouble getting into this one. Maybe an off barrel? Who knows. I will revisit again soon and see if some airtime has changed it for the better.

Noah's Mill a few years back was wonderful. :skep: The last couple have been less satisfying, though I can't a major disappointment, just not quite the lovely stuff of my first one.

I've had the exact opposite experience purchasing a bottle for a second time and discovering that maybe I didn't know what I was tasting the first time around.

I don't know that it has fallen out of favor, but I remember first trying Buffalo Trace and thinking it was the best stuff I had tasted. Looking back, I still enjoy it, but it is sort of like Woody in Toy Story in that it has been pushed to the back in favor of new "toys"

I have 3, actually. For two of these, I "get" the reason for my losing love. But, the 3rd one is a mystery. I once coveted AAA 10 Year, and bunkered and drank it lovingly. Now, I barely touch the bottle when I have one open, and only buy it now for the novelty it's limited distribution creates.

Yes, JD black. Its the first whiskey I can remember having and I used to think it was great. Now I like it, but its mediocre and overpriced. JDSB is tasty.
