I was just wondering if many pubs and bars in the USA celebrate Jacks birthday? We have been having a bit of a party every September for the last few years. This year you can win a really small hip flask, it holds about a shot. What use it has - I dont know!

I don't visit many pubs and bars; I can't answer your main question. Are the events that you attend backed by Jack Daniel Distillery?

I would find a one-shot capacity flask quite useful. I sometimes refill a 50 ml. Knob Creek bottle when I expect to want a drink while in some out-of-the-way place. It's handy enough, I suppose, but I do worry about the possibility of breaking it. A metal flask would not have that problem.

In fact, now you have me interested in tracking down a 50 ml. flask. (The smallest I've seen is at least 2-3 times that capacity.) Are the prizes that you refer to imprinted by Jack Daniel?

Irish whiskey flasks are notoriously small. I bought a Jameson one off eBay a couple years ago. Actually, I just did a search and found the exact one I have:

It's smaller than it looks...it might be what you're looking for.

Good luck!

I had all but broken my eBay habit. Here we go again...

I just now did a search on "flask", and 52 pages of hits came back. Even eliminating the labware and the orchid flasks, that's still an amazing number to me.

Hey Greenie,

Nice to have you join us. Welcome.

wondering if many pubs and bars in the USA celebrate Jacks birthday?

I'm betting they do in Tennessee. But, bein' frum Kentucky, I dunno Jack about that ... grin.gif

However, the idea of the small hip flask is cool. The trick would be to have several (plastic) that small. Scatter them all over your body. If you have to slip thru a checkpoint, you most likely make it thru with one or two... smoke.gif

I've got the same flask, and it's my favorite. It cost me a little

more than than that on sold for on Ebay, but mine came with a free

bottle of Jamison.

The thing I like most about it is that it's round, so it slips in and out of

the pocket easily.

I "won", if that's the right word for a purchase where I probably spent too much money, an eBay auction for a brand new one, which I tried out this afternoon.

I like the capacity; I don't like the "visible-at-ten-miles-on-a-clear-day" reflectivity; I don't like the excessive number of threads that I have to negotiate in order to remove the cap (I count 10 big twists or 20 normal-size twists); I like the way it feels in my pocket and in my hand; I like the way Elijah Craig 12 year, my favorite flask-bourbon, tastes from it.

I'm glad to have it, and I thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

Yours truly,

Dave Morefield
