Has anyone been to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil lately? My wife is going there in a few weeks and was wondering if there might be an opportunity to pick up some noteworthy bourbon that is not offered in the US, i.e. Blantons Straight from the Barrel.

Maybe some WT 101 8 yr export I got that in Mexico. Maybe some Blanton's but I wouldn't bet on that it mostly goes to Japan and some to Europe.

I was in Rio in March 2012. Galeao airport was under renovation, but it's also really small and depressing for such a large city and colorful country. There was no duty free anything available at the time.

In Rio, people mostly drink cachaca (especially in caipirinhas; often at proof as low as 76 or 70) and beer. If a bar or restaurant has any American whiskey, they usually only have Jim Beam white and/or Jack Daniels.
