I guess I have to try this stuff now as it just won a gold medal in the coveted SIP awards. Anyone have this before?

I had to look this up, not knowing anything about SIP...

Straight Bourbon

Best in Class - Tatoosh

Platinum - 4 Spirits

Platinum - Woodford Reserve Master's Collection Four Wood

Gold - Early Times 354

Gold - Old Forest (sic) 86

Gold - Town Branch

Silver - Woodford Reserve Double Oadked (sic)

Silver - Woodford Reserve

Bronze - Old Forester Signature

What is a Tatoosh?

My favorite of the bunch finished last. And to think that B-F paid $400 per entry.

I tried Town Branch last fall after a distillery tour and was disappointed. I was at McScrooges last week and did a tasting of their current bottling and found it quite enjoyable. Not a long finish but an enjoyable bourbon neat - IMHO. Brought one bottle home for the bar.

Is this a joke? Or did no major other than B-F enter the running?

I tried Town Branch when it first came out and it was basically terrible. Recently I had a chance to try it again and it wasn't terribly offensive. So... I guess that's a step in the right direction? :skep:

I'll try it again if I ever make it to the distillery. Won't be buying another bottle unless there are major improvements.

I don't think alltech has been distilling more than a couple years.

And my experiences with it were less than stellar. Love some of the ky ale beers. They have a bourbon barrel pumpkin stout coming soon.

I had a Kentucky Ale in the L'ville airport on my way home from Sampler and it was a big letdown. I'm sure the bourbon barrel aged one is better but I would definitely have preferred a West 6th IPA.

Wow - I'm in the same boat. ET354 was one I had high hopes for but was disappointed in, and to have that above WR or OFS? Obviously my palate differs from their judges

Most spirits awards are BS, some are outright bought. It's shameless.

Town Branch is pretty horrid stuff. They are trying to use Scotch stills to produce American Whiskey and the result is horrid. The distillery is beautiful but it's more for show than function. When I was there they had a fermenter that had been sitting for WEEKS. One of the most disgusting things I've ever seen at a distillery:

Maybe they're planning an accidental bottling? Hey if WT can charge $50 why not.
