If you hadn't seen it yet, I wanted to give everyone a heads up that Twins is doing their dollar sale again this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I'm not sure exactly what "dollar sale" actually means (they say they slash the price to the lowest price possible and then add a dollar) but the last time I was there for one, there were varying discounts on all items with stuff that was normally ~$100 cut to $70 or $80 (depending on the item).

I know I'm going to pick up a bottle of Old Pulteney 21, but I'm debating picking up the last bottle of WT Tradition that I think they have. (I decided to pass at retail based on reviews but if its less than $80 I'll probably spring for it.) I might also get a bottle of Hancock's Pres. I've never had it through all these years and have heard its mildly overpriced so I might give it a go at a discount.

Any thoughts on these? Any thoughts on bottles you'd spring for if sold at $10 off?

There were some good deals last time. FR1B for ~$26.

The wording changed this time. It used to say it would be their cost plus a buck. Now it says the rock bottom price plus a buck.

Whatever, I'll definitely be checking it out. It was definitely worth my while last time.

Have you had their private barrel? I thought it was really really good. I've probably drank 5-6 bottles of it.

How recently, Winston? I've had some private barrels from them before but don't remember the difference between them and "regular" FRSB. If you're giving good reviews, ill pick up a bottle if its back at $26.

I want to say last time I picked one up was in March or April. Kind of wish I had gotten more.

Ooh nice, thanks for sharing. I live in CA but I'll be in Austin this weekend.

In the past, the sale has been Thurs-Sat? The website has conflicting info; I clicked on the link posted, and at the bottom of the page it says Wed-Fri. On the right side of the same page, it says Thurs-Sat. I won't be there until Saturday morning.

I think in the past it was wed-fri but this is supposed to go through Sat.

Thanks, ATX. Fingers Crossed.

Well, it was a successful trip. I bought some good scotches (best was a G&M bottling of Old Pulteney 21) but the coolest thing was I got a bottle of WT Tradition for $70. I spotted it off to the side (off the shelf) and asked the guys if it was being held for someone. It didn't have a name on it so it was mine. I've passed on it at ~$120 but at $70 it's a steal. Also picked up a bottle Hancock's Pres for $40 and a store pick FRSB for $28. Good haul.

Let me add my endorsement of this current Twin Liquors barrel pick of FRSB. Awesome stuff. I'm going to go back and buy another or three.

I'm in Bryan/College Station and just saw a TWIN commercial on TV on this sale. They have a location here, which was news to me, that I will be visiting tomorrow.

I think they're expanding around the state. Seems like they're competing with Spec's in the areas outside of Houston.

I haven't. I'll have to give it a shot.

I picked up an Ardbeg Alligator for $64.

And another bottle of Fernet Branca. :)

Thanks for the heads up. I was in college station and hit the store there. Bourbon was hit pretty hard by the time I got there. I did get some Rare Breed at around 30 and picked up some EL Tesoro tequila, germain robin brandy and several Irish at very good prices. The guy I spoke to indicated they do this a couple times a year after inventory with the next time probably in Feb.

We went Friday night at 8.30pm. It was packed and stuff was flying off he shelf. I bought some everyday drinking bourbon at great prices and also snagged 2 bottle of 4R 2011 SB LE.

Wow. I guess I needed to make a trip to the Twins in College Station. I would have loved a bottle of FRSBLE at any price, much less at a discount.

I originally passed on the LE because I have a poisen girl private which is barrel proof. Went back on Saturday and noticed they were gone. Glad they found a good home. Making a trip to 4roses in about a month and will see what the bourbon festival folks left for me

The prices in this thread make me sad...

I have recently gotten onto Fernet and have had a bit of fun using its for whiskey cocktaills as a bitters alternative or even in a sazerac instead of absinthe, along with a few other mixings, how do you take it?

Poison Girl selected a 4 Roses SB OESV which was 11yr7mo and 120.2 proof. They left some behind at retailer, Tony K's, for others to buy if interested. It only made 90 bottles. This was 3 weeks ago and now gone. They do have it at their bar for $10/pour.
