Just poured from a sample of Nikka Pure Malt Black - thanks to the generous SB'r that rhymes with "Taming of the Shrew"

;)

Edit: Following that up with Glenmorangie Finealta & Glendiddich Snow Phoenix

Dude, you did the triple sample in one night, I'm impressed! I had nothing tonight, too much PC gaming to be had. Tomorrow night though...

Well, I lied, I'm enjoying a small pour of the Springbank 14 CS and man... that is TASTY. It's odd though, I get some peat on the nose, or at least a hint of something that says peat to my brain yet nothing on the palate itself. Just sweet, warm tastiness. In fact, it's so good, I may pour just a little bit more...

Cracked open a Glendronach 15 revival and also had a glass of the Yamazaki 18. I really wish the proofing on the Yamazaki was a tad higher, 92 (or even 100) would be great!

Small pours of the Miyagikyo 12 and Nikka Coffey Grain at the bar. Miyagikyo was good, but that Nikka Coffey grain is a stunner, must buy if I see it retail. Fruity goodness.

That Coffey Grain sounds like it'd have a similar profile to Bourbon... Did your palate pick up on that or am I totally off base?

It actually reminded me most of St. George Single Malt, Batch 12 specifically, and had a similarity to HW16 in fruitiness, but without the spice notes. Definitely not as sweet or oily as bourbon though, IMO.

Thanks for the feedback. I really enjoy Nikka's products and can't wait to try that one.

Same, I almost ordered one previously but did not know what to expect. Now I'm going to have to grab a bottle.

Oban 14 and Glenlivet 18 at Logan Airport. Oban was one of my first malt loves and the price shot up and it became very hard to find soon after I found it. I think things have settled down in terms of availability but $75 is a lot to ask for it. Still quite tasty, kind of similar to Talisker with less smoke and more honey. $11 for a well-poured glass.

The Glenlivet 18 was very different, with none of the sea salt honey, leaning much more on the sherried side of things. There was some funky sulphur notes, especially on the nose, but nothing too undone. Not bad for $12, but I preferred the Oban.

I need to find some Oban when I'm at the bar next time... Sea salt honey sounds scrumptuous.

Aberfeldy 12 & Bruichladdich Rocks for me tonight. In between, a wee dram of Glenfiddich 12 from a gift sample pack shared with me wife.

Powers John's Lane, an awfully good Irish IMO

As good as it gets IMHO. I've had the Green & Yellow Spot as well as the RB 12 CS. I'd take Power's over those any day. Awesome vanilla waffers and christmas cookie notes. It's just so....so....so....NOT Irish! ;)

I'm eager to try a bottle of this as soon as I can lay hands on one. Until that time comes, here on turkey day I've decided to not pursue the usual & more traditional bird this year...opting instead for one of smaller stature but every bit as tasty (perhaps more) - Redbreast 12CS.

Happy & Safe Thanksgiving to all! :toast:

oh, I'd say it is all Irish. Just nobody has been making it the way it should be for quite some time.

While out here in Oregon I picked up two bottles of the Emerald 1865 whiskey from Ransom Spirits. Not really foreign whiskey but being made based on an 1865 recipe for pot still whiskey that was unearthed by David Wondrich. They previously collaborated on Ransom Old Tom Gin.

I definitely plan to open this one for Thanksgiving!

After the Redbreast, had some Bushmills before the feast. Afterwards for dessert, Glenrothes Select...very good day. Maybe a bit later in the evening, Balvenie Founders.

I'll need all that and then some with a 4 day weekend at the in-laws...where there's no booze to be had.
