theglobalguy
That's a nice marketing spin. Wouldn't mind them saying that if they made their own product...or if it had any factual bearing on the quality of the current product. You know, small stuff. Chuckles
So who makes it and what's it taste like?
Old Dusty
So who makes it and what's it taste like?Unknown and at least to me also unknown. Bottled (and sourced?) by KBD. There has always been some name confusion with the unicorn A.H. Hirsch line but this makes the first overt attempt I am aware of to tie them together. Perhaps Chuck C can offer some further insight. Like does Anchor now own both (formerly separate) Hirsch labels?
squire
Looks like one of those honor whiskys in that we should be honored they will let us buy some. They are, after all, the leading authority according to the website.

ChainWhip
Don't know where you're getting the formerly separate thing.I think separate entities owned the names "A.H. Hirsch" and "Hirsch".
Old Dusty
I think separate entities owned the names "A.H. Hirsch" and "Hirsch".Yes that's what I've read as well. Pries(sp?) Imports had one and the Hue family in Covington Ky had the other. Both labels have been sold a couple of times but I think Anchor has both now. cowdery
Gordon Hue created A. H. Hirsch using whiskey made at Michter's which he bought from Hirsch himself. He later sold the brand and whiskey to Henry Preiss, a small wine and spirits importer in California. Henry vowed he would never use "A. H. Hirsch" on any product that was not from that original cache of whiskey made in 1974, but he started to produce other products labeled simply "Hirsch," without the "A. H." A few years ago, Fritz Maytag sold Anchor and Preiss sold Preiss Imports to the same guys, who called the combined company Anchor. A year or so ago, when they brought out an extra-aged bourbon (source unknown), they did so under the "Hirsch" brand but in marketing, tried to position it as the successor to A. H. Hirsch. If you care to know the true story of A. H. Hirsch, go here.
