SW Rebel Yell.

I recently came across some Rebel Yell that appears to have been bottled in 1996. What are the chances that there would be SW juice in these bottles?

SW was sold of in 1999, so you might have something good on your hands! And per the referenced thread, the SW bottling of Rebel Yell was at 90 proof, if that helps you.

I believe the Rebel Yell brand was sold to HH in '93 then to David Sherman which became Luxco who owns the label today. The whisky was sourced then as now and mid to late 90s stuff could be SW or another distiller, or a blend of different makes.

Something to keep in mind is SW produced some excellent whisky from selected honey barrels in their premium bottlings but most of what they made was ordinary stuff that was sold under the Cabin Still, Rebel Yell and Old Fitz Prime brands. Good, certainly, but no better than the mid shelf lines of other distillers.

I believe United Distillers came in and bought it up around '92-93 (along with several others, as they were flush and our market was soft). Several years later they divided what was SW up and HH got a piece of it (maybe Old Fitz?).

Nevertheless, I drank a ton of that stuff back in the day and never had a problem with it! It very well may have had something to do with my much more youthful state at the time, but I recall a good blend whatever the heck it was (is)...enjoy!

This is just an anecdote I recall from the dusty hunters around here. The older label Rebel Yell (with the man riding a horse on the label) is supposed to be the "good stuff".

Stitzel-Weller under Van Winkle ownership made one basic, wheat recipe Bourbon and all their brands were different expressions of that core whisky. Weller 7/107 was a bit older and higher proof version of Old Fitzgerald BIB.

I'd say their premiums were the age stated 8,10,12 and 15 year Old Fitzgeralds.

The dusty Rebel Yell was good stuff at 6 years and 90 proof, a step up from the 4-5 year 86 proof Old Fitz Prime and Cabin Still.
