Duty-Free Question

I'm heading off on another cruise in early December. I will be visiting St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Aruba and Curacao. I've gone through numerous old threads regarding duty-free items that aren't available on the mainland. From what I've read, I should be able to find Wild Turkey 8, so I'm certainly going to pick up a bottle of that. I've read conflicting reports regarding Wild Turkey 12. I've seen a few saying that it has been replaced by Wild Turkey 13 at a lower 91 proof. If that's the case, I'll just pick up the 8, but if the 12 is indeed still around I'll pick that one up too. Jack Daniels Silver Select is on my list. I'm assuming Blanton's Straight From The Barrel is Asia/Europe only? I'd love to get one of those, but I'm pretty sure that one won't be available.

The other issue is that St. Thomas is our first stop and I can bring back 4 litres per person if we purchase there. Otherwise, it's only 1 liter. I'm just wondering if they'll be anything different on the other islands.

Anything else worth picking up down there?

I'd recommend loading up on Cuban cigars.

Duty Free at the airport in Aruba had Jack Daniel's Silver Select this Summer. I would guess they would have it at other DF's on the island, too? I don't know what your thoughts are on regular Daniel's, but regardless, your opinion will improve of the brand after you drink this. It's a very nice whiskey.

Remember, your limit is only for duty free bottles. You can actually bring back a lot more than the limit, customs just may require you pay a duty, something like $3-$4 a bottle. I always come back with a haul and declare every single bottle. Even when I've had over 15 they did not say a word. Good luck!

Well, I'm back from the cruise and didn't bring anything home in terms of bourbon. No Wild Turkey 8 or 12. I did find one store that had Blanton's Gold, but I couldn't find any proof listed anywhere on the box. Without knowing what it was, I skipped it. In retrospect, I should have bought a bottle or two. It's 103 proof. I'll make sure and get that next time (we usually go down there once a year). I also found one shop that had 4 bottles of the Old Forester Birthday Bourbon 2007. Again, I wasn't sure if the 2007 was any good or not. Since they don't appear to be moving very quickly, I'm sure they'll still have at least one when I go back.

I didn't even find the Jack Daniels Silver Select. I did find several other of the Jack Daniels special bottlings (Holiday Select, Gold Medal, etc) but I know a store here in town that carries all of those.

The only thing I bought was a couple of liters of Havana Club 7-year. I haven't tried it yet, but thought they'd be worth getting for $26 a bottle.
