cowdery
I remember talking to this writer at the Washington Post a few weeks ago, but only just saw the article (published 9/24). She does a nice, in-depth job with the whole NDP question and I get off a few good lines. I think it's worth a read. By the way, I'm mis-spoke about Pappy and Bill Samuels Sr being neighbors. Samuels lived in Bardstown, right next to Jim Beam (the man, not the distillery) while Pappy lived in Louisville, but they were friends. And I never worked directly for Brown-Forman. I worked for one of their marketing agencies. The Nelsons and I are on good terms, despite my pessimism about their business plan. No worries. A lot of things I thought were impossible have happened in the last few years.
VAGentleman
Nice article. I got a bottle of this and it was total pickle juice in both the nose and flavor. I couldn't drink it
MauiSon
Well, I doubt many of us really care about 'story' at all (history & memories - yes; story - not really), but I can see how marketers will always support the importance of story-hype. cowdery
The first time I became aware of Belle Meade was a few months ago. I was with a friend at Twisted Spoke and it caught his eye for some reason. I had a taste and wasn't impressed. Only later did I realize this was what the Green Brier guys were up to. I didn't know then that it was MGPI/Indiana bourbon, but that has been my reaction to all of the MGPI/Indiana bourbon I've had, regardless of age. I can't put my finger on exactly what the problem is, but it just doesn't taste quite right. The best ones are the ones that have had some kind of barrel finish, and of these the New Holland Beer Barrel Bourbon is probably the best. wadewood
If you are in Houston and want to meet one of the principals at Belle Meade, Andy Nelson, he will be at Specs downtown from 5-8pm this Wednesday. After that wraps up, I plan to have a drink with him at Poison Girl.
