Howdy!

As some of you might know, I'm stuck up here in Montreal where the selection of bourbon is absolutely tiny. However I discovered I have a friend who is "visiting" Evansville, and has graciously offered to purchase and bring over the border bourbons that I presume can't be had up here.

Instead of using Google to ID liquor stores down there, I was wondering if anyone had suggestions or reccomendations of good to great and/or awesome liquor stores (both in terms of selection and service) in the Evansville, IN and Henderson KY area? Bonus points if their inventory is online!

And am I correct in my understanding that liquor prices are significantly cheaper in Kentucky than they are in Indiana?

Thanks tons! in advance.

Hi from Jonathan in Henderson, KY. Your buddy needs to go to J's in Owensboro, KY. It is at 2216 New Hartford Rd. The Tel.# is (270) 683-8378. They have the Bourbons that are not distributed outside of KY. Such things as Ancient Ancient Age 10 Year Old. I'm not sure if you get the Weller products up there but they have the Special Reserve, 12 Yr and Old Weller Antique 107 Proof. They also have Mellow Corn which is a fine example of Corn Whiskey. They have Evan Williams BIB which recently has seen larger distribution, and Evan Williams Single Barrel which you must have him get. If you're looking for anything in particular let me know and I will find out for you. In Evansville, Winetree East at 1951 Washington Ave. and Frontier Liquors at 865 S Green River Rd. both have good selections. I would ask him to go to both since the selection at the two there is a little different. Frontier also has EWSB that is bottled specifically for that small chain of stores in Evansville. Anything more you want to know just ask. Also have him look for Four Roses Products, Very Old Barton, and Elmer T. Lee.

By the way, what can you get where you are? Also what styles do you like. The more I know the more help I can be.

Having spent some time in Henderson, KY through the years (Bob Gregory, who has since passed, smoked up some of the best bbq known to man...first at Ralph's and then his last place Greg's on Hwy 41...never been a big Thomason's bbq fan but oh those beans) I'm in total agreement with your recommendations Jonathan. I'd just add that in Henderson itself the Rite-Aid drug store has a limited selection but some excellent sale prices. I recall buying a Blantons for $45 and a Dickel 12 for $15. They also carry 4R single barrel and small batch. And Bartons .

EWSB should be half the price here. Eagle Rare 10 should be cheaper. Makers is about half the price. Bookers is the same here. But man, they sure do jack up the price up there! I know it isn't Bourbon but you really should put Mellow Corn on the list for your buddy to pick up. It is just a nice change of pace every now and again.

T Comp you may be right. Never make it in to Rite Aid but I may have to. I do know that even on sale Walgreens prices are high. If you're in town again go to the intersection of Washington and Powell streets and you will fond J&B BBQ. Some of the best Mutton, Beef, and Chicken around. I like Newts and the Beverage Barn but they just don't have stuff like Mellow Corn, AAA 10 Yr and Larceny.

KY vs. IN prices, KY can be a little cheaper on some items. Many things (especially stuff you can find almost anywhere) the price is about the same. The main reason to shop in KY is selection.
