I'm in Michigan and there are a few Bourbons that aren't available eher that I may be looking to try at some point. I was wondering if there aw a a good place to order online. I know shipping usually kills you with this kind of thing so ordering in quantity would be beneficial. I was looking at Caskers.com as they have some good stuff it seems and theyre running a special if you spent 150 you get free shipping.

I didn't a little looking and haven't found much mention of them though. There wa a thread heer talking about their high prices, but from what I was looking at they are pretty comparable with what I pay here for the stuff that's available to me.

Any other suggestions?

It all depends on what you want, but Hi Time Wines (www.hitimewine.net) is pretty much the best place out there if they ship to your state. Huge selection and generally the best pricing. Shoot me a PM if you want more info.

Im looking for general stuff that I just can't get here nothing crazy. For example for whatever reason Weller 12 isnt available here, Id like to try Noahs Mill, Breckenridge things like that.

The shipping is one of the problems I have some places do some don't.....That particular one does not...but I may contact them because I think out law recently changed here. Binnys is another good one it but they don't either. I've found some that do, Caskers for example. I just stumbled on another just not but they're so grossly overpriced its not even funny.

And I have to say after a little web searching I'm even confused about getting alcohol shipped here...From everything I'm reading it seems to be illegal......but people do ship here and I can't imaging they're risking their licenses and fines just to ship a few bottles to us every now and then.....

so I suppose I can see why a retailer would be....I think maybe my best bet may be to just get to know my local guys and see what they can really order....

I have purchased from Caskers on occassion when they have a free shipping deal. Some things are overpriced but $24.99 for weller 12 is not bad. I paid $30 in FL and cannot find it in SC NC or VA.

I was going to order a few things that I could get here. The Weller for one, Noahs mill and Breckenridge though it seems that may actually be available bathere...The I dont know I wasn looking at a couple others....either the Hookers House or the Larceny....but Larceny may be available here too....

See me for example, Blantons is 50 here...Eagle Rare is 30, EC12 is about 24 or 25 and thats about what I pay for a bottle here at a store....so for me at least their prices don't look outrageous....Which is why I was curious that there wasn't a ton of mention of them here and the one mention I did see was saying they were expensive....I can see it getting that way with shipping...so taking advantage of free shipping deals would be the way to go for sure....

Prices swing wildly on nearly every product across the country, so you have to take those comments with a grain of salt. I can buy Ritt BIB for $17.99. If I go across the border into Ashland, KY it's $26.99. I can buy EC12 for $19.99, you pay $25. Somebody may be able to get Blanton's for $45, here it's nearly $60. You may find FR1B for $30, here it's close to $40. Etc. etc.

I did a large order from Caskers when I very first started "drinking outside the box" and had a nice experience with them. I haven't returned because shipping to my state was a hassle, and because their prices are not bad, nor are they good. I also find their marketing to be annoying (if very entertaining). Every whiskey on the planet has been called "the best in the world" by someone, and they never fail to find that quote and use it in their email marketing. I think it's very amusing, but it does not make me want to do business with them.

Loki - use this State of Mi web site to check what is allowed to be brought into the state and the state minimum selling price. That doesn't mean you can find it here, just that the wholesalers can bring it in. A good liquor store should have most of what is listed - within reasonable prices. BTW, Larceny is one that is not brought in yet.

Just select Straight Bourbon from the drop down to see the list. Nice tool. Also, Old Grand Dad BIB is listed under "Bottled in Bond Bourbon" - the only BIB listed there. go figure.

Last I knew TPS no longer ships - link.

100% correct. That stinks as they sold some very nice bourbons. I wonder why they would stop.

Sales had to decrease the cost of the shipping was pasted on the the consumer.

This was discussed when the change took place. Bottom line was that TPS was likely violating the state's laws but it had gone ignored for several years. A new liquor commissioner was appointed and took them to task on it. Fighting that ruling would have potentially cost them their liquor license, so they stopped all shipping.

I don't think TPS has stopped all shipping just to some states Iowa being one. Another one Shoppers Vineyard has stopped all together.

Unfortunately they're completely out of the shipping business . . .

sucks, but with the popularity of bourbon, they had a pretty standard selection on line, very few LEs made it. That being said, I guess if you lived in a control state, it was a good resource for bourbons they wouldn't bring to the state. Oh well, guess I have to drive to KY everyonce and awhile. That sucks, HA!

ROAD TRIP!!! Grab some buddies, drive to Kentucky and make a weekend out of it. You could get in a distillery visit or two while you are at it.

I'd guess building a distillery....you might want to REALLY stay on the right side of the law these days. Tour wouldn't be nearly as cool if they we're brewing ginger ale! :)

Yep, this put a definite dent in not only their business but many a man's present & future cabinet diversity. :frown: Though I love KY and am constantly trying (with little success) to find new reasons (with the Mrs) to visit, not enough time or money (fuel & travel, etc.) at present to fill the vacuum this created.

Try this then since The Party Source is not shipping. BTW: does this forum ever form a group to buy a bourbon? If we wanted a certain bourbon that may be purchased, but not currently carryed

by a vendor, have we ever made group purchases?

http://www.superwinewarehouse.com/ The owner is Juan and he will special order. Good prices. Call him and he may discount on multiple bottle (6+) purchase.

I think there is or was one here at some point I looked at it when I first joined but there hadn't been any activity in it in quite some time....

Group buy looks good on paper but quickly gets complicated, starting with who gets to pick the barrel to who handles the money it's just too much hassle.

We don't need to agree on anything if a merchant decides to offer a discount to members. I say go for it.
