I think Sazerac has shown that there is life in the Taylor brand. Let's hope Beam decides to reinvigorate the others.

This is where I'm at on this. I'm glad to see them investing in the Olds. I just wish they would invest in making Old Crow worth drinking.

I got some comments from Beam about the reason for the site. Interesting to note that they have partnered with (i.e., hired) The Onion to provide content.

More here.

Interesting and clever; trying to make the olds the new PBR. Very little cost and lots of upside potential. We better stock up on OGD before it becomes trendy and the shelves are bare.

I feel for you Squire - not a comfortable feeling when they are making a run on your brand!

Interesting choice working with The Onion on this - explains a lot.

That would be very cool if they would put some effort into Old Tub, but recent reviews seem to indicate that it's just an okay pour. It seems that for Beam, good enough is, well, good enough.

  • 2 months later...

Looks like Beam updated the OC label to make it classier and include Dr. James Crow's name, but it's still 3-year-old swill:

Still don't understand why they would bother to acknowledge the history of the brand but not honor it with some decent whiskey.

I love the back label. "Aged for a full three years." If they had just said, "Aged for 3 years," would we assume they only meant 2 and a half??

Suntory can't take over quick enough.

Of course there was a time when whisky was sold in quart bottles until some bright guy figured out he could get five bottles out of a gallon by reducing the size to a 4/5 quart bottle. I remember ads that stated their brand was "a full 4/5ths of a quart", as if there was any doubt.

I guess 'a full three years' is there to reassure those of us who are math challenged.

the general public proves that correct, Squire

Now, we have a problem with how they word age statements?????

While we're bitching, I always hated the Beam products that had the age stated in months, particularly when they reached into triple digits. That's a bitch to figure out on the fly!

I'm afraid for the day when I meet someone who has trouble with 3=3.

if it werent for calculators and cash registers, the general public would be f#$ked. Your bill is $9.83 and you give them a $10? most people can figure that out on the top of their head....but try giving them $10.08, because you want one coin back in change instead of 4, and you can almost hear the gears stripping out.

Apparently, staying on topic is as difficult for some as adding 3 and 3 is for others.

Does every thread here need to become someones stream of consciousness purge?

The Boss spoke of this issue in the past and it has reared its head quite a bit lately. Please stay on topic.
