Taking a quite visit to the local whiskey monger, I was excited to see the large end aisle stack of Very Rare Old Heaven Hill 8yr. Good price for a handle, $18+ with a 10% case discount to boot.

But then the same print below the price, "last supply in MN".

What!!! Discontinued!! No!!!!!

Panic ensues.

In talking with him, apparently Heaven Hill is discontinuing this product line, no great surprise, as it probably wasn't worth it for being just in MN and RI.

Sad to see it go if this is truly the case, going to send HH a email and see what they say.

Sad, sad day indeed, considering I was already bummed in reading that Wiser's Legacy is soon to be Canada only for availability.

But that's topic for another thread.

I'm surprised that they still offer some of these labels in such limited markets (which is more to say "Offer that stuff everywhere man!" rather than "Shut those little labels down man!"). $18 for a handle of anything decent is a steal!

That's too bad. If this is true, it will be missed. I'm glad I got a couple of bottles of this last year. Great price for a great bourbon.

Wow ... guess I'll go get one to squirrel away for posterity's sake. It really is/was a bargain. :banghead:

Excuse me, I must quickly leave the board for a bit. (sprinting to truck to go install air shocks and a tow package so I can drive around MN and pick up every single bottle of Old Heaven Hill 8 year old)

This is sad news. It is a pour I have taken for granted in the past. Now if the 6 year old BIB replaced it for a similar price point in MN I think I would be one happy, cheap, bourbon enthusiast.

There are a number of old brands we took for granted until they were no more. If I've learned anything it's stock up whenever you can.

I have a couple of "warm-up" bourbons, and this is one of them. Another was AAA10 and OGD 86 - all value pours, and if you didn't move on to anything bigger/bolder were entirely satisfying in their own right. And now all gone in this year alone - where is my crying towel?

I'm a huge HH fan, so I had been looking forward to trying this one for the longest time. Now I'm really glad that I brought home a few bottles from a trip to Minnesota, but I knew that I should have bought more...

Yep. I said the same thing after I got home from vacation last year and opened one up.

I suppose this should have been obvious, when EW BiB and 1783 showed up here that we would lose something dear.

I have been too damn busy to get out and try to stock up but I know that at least one store near where I work doesn't even have a shelf tag for it any more.

My only hope with this is that is still may be available as a dusty in a lot of stores for the near future. it will be fun to pull it off and remember the "good ole' days" when you could get it anywhere.

Sigh.....

Because of the unique partnership Heaven Hill has with its distributors, distributors often can offer products that aren't generally available. The decision to drop an odd expression in one state may very well be a distributor decision, not Heaven Hill.
