I picked up a bottle of FRsb with label that says GE 16-4R. Does anyone know location or meaning from Four Roses? Thanks.

First two letters indicate which rickhouse they come from. First number is the barrel number and the second one tells you what level or tier the barrel was on, presumably tier 4 in this case. The letter is probably important as well but i am not sure what it means.

As Mark notes they generally are responsive to emails.

Question answered below by Four Roses, fast respones:

GE 16-4R is the location where that particular barrel aged –

G Warehouse (Each of our warehouses carries an alphabeticaldesignation, A, B, C, etc.)

E indicates the East side of the warehouse

16 is the warehouse rack

4 is the 4^th tier

R is the actual barrel (again, each barrel is given analphabetical designation)

Long as we're on the topic, Has anyone else noticed there aren't too many single barrels put out from the first or sixth tiers? I wonder if those barrels mostly have flavor profiles more suited for blending.

Oh, and the 'R' designation is how far from the aisle the barrel is located. So the barrel designation exactly locates where the barrel has been aged.

Four roses warehouses are very short compared to everyone else's.

That's correct, single story warehouses don't have the wide variance between barrels that multi story edifices create.

Maybe not as wide a variance, but I sure don't see tiers 1 or 6 proportionally represented in single barrel bottles. Could be my sampling size is just too small, though. It might make for an interesting tasting to sample a 6-barrel literal vertical.

Agree that the variance isn't as wide, but certainly is present. Comparing the proof on some calls that out. In my small sample size, I've got a 10 yr, 3 months at under 110 proof, and a 10 yr 9 months at over 120 proof. I'll have to check when I get home, but I'd bet they were a couple tiers apart. One of the reasons you don't see FRSB higher than 125 proof that often (at least, that's my guess).

The current gift shop OESV barrel selection I bought a few weeks back is 127.2 proof and that is FS 8-5E. This is my first OESV bottle but I really enjoy this one with the high proof. Most of my experience before this one though is under 115 proof and I think most have been from the first tier.
