I would say I prefer OWA or Maker's 46, depending on mood.

Bluffhunter, you have had several threads looking for recommendations or advice but I haven't seen a lot of followup from you. You should let us know what you end up choosing and whether you like it or not.

From a prior thread I did pick up EC12 and thought the nose was fantastic but the finish was a little hot but overall for price was good. Also picked up the WTrb and RRSB and really like those two especially the WTrb but obviously in a higher price range so they should be better. Have had a few others when out for dinner. Now was looking at dabbling my feet some into wheaters but in my area pretty limited available to MM MM46, OWA, OWsr. Have not seen Larceny around and just went to store and they are all out of stock now on the OWA. Was going to try MM46 but at $37 wondering if should get a few bottles of something in the mid $20 range first?

Not sure where you are located, but most of the ones listed are available outside a few special ones listed. A lot of them are available in small sizes to sample if you don't want to buy a whole bottle. Best of luck to you developing your list of wheaters.

If your local stores have them try a few of the mini bottles first as Petrel suggested and that way you can see what you liike without having to commit to a bunch of new bottles.

That's a tough one... at $37 I'd say MM46 is overpriced. I'd say go with OWA instead, but it's out of stock.

I've never tried the WSR... is Old Fitzgerald BiB not available either? That's pretty much 100 proof Larceny.

Not really, JP. Significantly older HH whiskey in the Larceny. For me, the profiles are different, as well. I like the OF BIB, but is pretty simply to me. The Larceny is a drier bourbon, for sure, with the more aged whiskey in the mix. I find it to be much more complex and I find I can coax more out of a pour of it, than the OF.

With the current rebate on Larceny ($10 on 750ml), it's really, really hard to pass up right now. If you can find a bottle with the rebate hang tag, I'd say try it out.

... only difference to me seemed to be barrel selection/age/proof.

No wonder they seemed similar...

I see that we're gonna have to take this outside....

:duel:

.... I'll bring the OF100, you bring the Larceny. ;)

Bernheim is not a wheater.

There would be more Wheaters on the market if the decision makers in Kentucky didn't have a bias against them.

Bernheim is an interesting enough whiskey if you don't add water or ice IMO. Any dilution on my part just washes out the already delicate flavor.
