I'm sorry, Willie, I just can't cry.

I would put Knob Creek Rye on my list. I actually like Beam rye and had high hopes for this one but I struggled to finish the bottle. I had a similar experience with Beam Green label but I had much lower expectations of that one so I'm not sure it counts.

Here's one that might come as a surprise: PHC wheated. I keep coming back to it, thinking I'll warm up to it, and I can recognize that it's obviously well-crafted but it just doesn't do it for me. It's very disappointing. But it looks good on my shelf.

What a comment! I don't know how to describe how you sound...what's the opposite of "ruthless"?

While I love Lot B, I've never been able to develop a taste for the older Pappys. Indeed, I have trouble with many bourbons over 12 and will pass them by if I have a choice. Never met an 8 I didn't like, though.

Me and Harry think alot alike.

I think this thread is very cool and serves to point out that despite all of the threads that seem indicate a consensus, our tastes are still very individual. It's a good thing there are so many different whiskies out there!

The one that I really wanted to like but just couldn't get into was JBB. On paper it had everything I should have liked, but I won't be buying another.

My first thought was FRYL, but damn, this ain't no multiple choice exam  so on further reflection, Evan Williams single barrel.

I used to love WSR and OWA, but over the last year I have tried several times and now they are basically undrinkable for me. WSR is astringent and OWA tastes like grain alcohol mixed with brown sugar.

Mine is Larceny. I've tried very hard to like it over several different tastings and just find something off-putting about it. It seems to get a lot of praise here, but it is just so unexciting. I feel the same about most FR offerings. Their bourbons taste well made, but to my palate, they just don't excite me.

I really like 4R Small Batch. Their products seem to be polarizing..you either love them or don't like them at all it seems.

Question for SBers, what bourbon have you given up on even after giving it more than you consider a fair shot?

Ive only found a few that are definite no-repeats.......4R1B, JBB, ECBP, and OO.

Overholt was the worst thing ever. Couldnt finish it, dumped it out after trying a dozen times or so.

JBB was hard to choke down. I still find it hard to believe this is the same family as Booker's.

4R1b just did nothing for me. Not bad, just completely unimpresssive. I gave it to a friend who loves it.

ECBP seemed unfit for human consumption to me, but others at KBF thought it was great, so I guess its just me.

I try to give the benefit of the doubt to 4R and ECBP though, as the 4R is a single barrel and may vary, and the ECBP#2 got mixed reviews when compared to the other versions of it.

Agreed on that JBB... gnarly stuff, hard to believe a couple of my faves (KC/KC120) are in the same family.

Add me to the OWA list - I agree with the grain alcohol/brown sugar note. I haven't given up on it though, I bought a store single barrel at 7 yrs with the insurance policy of some W12. Figure if I end up in the same place with the OWA, I can at least make the SB blend.

The cult favorite OGD 114 leaves me non-plused...

Same here. I didn't like it at the begining and ended up using the bottle for cooking. I gave it another try as my tasting got a little better, then bought a third thinking maybe the second was a bad bottle. I can't make myself like it.

OFBB 2013 - I find it barely drinkable. I can nose it all night, just don't want to drink it.

Don't give up on it. I was right there with you a couple weeks ago and then either my bottle opened up or my palate changed, because it became wonderful again. (When I first opened it, it smelled like nail polish remover, after a couple weeks it matched all of the best reviews I've read about it, a couple weeks after that it was like sku's review - barely drinkable with all the bitterness on the finish, then a couple weeks after that, it was wonderful again.)

Can't explain it, but really glad I didn't give up because it's really really good when it's on.

Interesting! I have not tried it. However, yours is a minority perspective. Which is fine! Just curious, what do you not like about it?

There is a "burnt rubber" taste I get on the finish. It ruins the whole experience.

Interesting subject for a thread. Ive got a new one, ER10. Tried 3 bottles over the last year or so, and find it hard to pinpoint why I detest it. Air made no difference to the contents. I cant do it again. Another one that has been previously mentioned is EC12, but I heard this can be hit and miss!

i'm new here and spend most of my time on the bottom shelf with the odd middle shelf.

The one I really will not buy is JD 1907 74 proof. Probably just for Aust as a price chaser of the main volume trade. It's a weak and poor example of a drink.

From what I can make out JD is not treated here as a bourbon. This example of it a disrespect to the label and bourbon drinkers.

I have tried a few bottles and find it uninspiring. No tasting notes on it and not I am not going to buy a bottle just to review it again.

It would go close to the world's worst.

Just thought I would join in and tell you about a bottle that you are lucky not to be offered.

I agree with your assessment booma. Under 80 proof is not permitted in the USA unless it's labeled 'diluted whisky' though I'm sure producers would market 36 mo old 70 proof here if they could.
