Knob Creek SB

Question for the ones who like Knob Creek single barrel. How does it compare to Wild Turkey rare breed or Russells Reserve SB and the 10 year. Is it that much hotter and not as smooth or just too spicy? I like WTrb and RRsb but my curiosity has peaked about Knob Creek single barrel but wanted some info before dropping $38 on a bottle? or invest in a different one to try out?

Have you had Booker's? If so, whatever your opinion of Booker's is, will likely be your opinion of KCSB. I find them very similar, but with Booker's being a bit 'hotter' and having a better mouthfeel, and KCSB having a longer lasting and better aftertaste.

I find that it does display more amplified alcohol heat, spice and cinnamon candy vs the more balanced/refined WTRB or RRSB. They are all fine pours, but the KCSB is one that I do enjoy and keep around all the time. I find that I usually add some ice to tame it down a little whereas I normally drink the RB and/or RR neat. I also enjoy the regular KC, which may be an easier transition from what you are used to.

Yeah, it's hard to compare to any WT products. Much more similar to Baker's and Booker's, and of course standard Knob. Tends to be drier on the finish. Some are pretty hot out of the gate but settle down after being open a few weeks. If you can find store pick hand selected by Fred Noe these seem to be sweeter and easy drinking, even neat.

Thanks for the comments. Looking at my local store for same price $38 i could pick up Black Maple Hill small batch bourbon, KC single barrel, Old Scout or Makers 46 all of which i have not tried yet or thoughts are am I better off spending the money to bunker another WT rare breed or Russells Reserve single barrel?

I would choose KCSB over all those if I had to pick just one. Like Paddy says it does well with ice. I haven't had the RRSB but I don't consider current WTRB bunker-worthy, if that helps. I don't really bunker, but I do have a couple of unopened KCSBs in my downstairs bar. I think it's a good pour but your mileage may vary of course.

Makers 46 is unique..the sweetness and creaminess of Maker's with a maple and cinnamon character added from the toasted French oak stave finishing. I highly recommend it. As said before KCSB has little in common with the WT products. WT products have decreased in quality somewhat over the past few years IMHO. I like Booker's and Baker's a little better than KCSB myself...but KCSB is still good.

I'd say give KCSB a try. $38 is not a bad price. It's probably my favorite Beam product, along with OGD 114.

This is pretty much how I feel too. KCSB seems to have a bit more spice and intensity from the wood than WTRB or RR. I like the latter more, but enjoy them all. And the KCSB is one that I generally add a cube with...or make an old fashioned, which it does wonderfully.

Agree with this completely. They taste VERY similar to me. Booker's may be higher proof (but not much), KCSB is a couple years older. I've never had them side by side but for $15 less I drink far more KCSB.
