I picked up an EC12 handle last year for $40. Hard to beat that. Comes out to $17.16 per 750.

Cigar Guy. Check the ABC website. Anything on it can be shipped to the store for free. W12 handles are there. My store keeps them in stock. They get a delivery from the main warehouse once a week. Just ask them what day it is, and the will also call you when it arrives.

Yeah. It was a spur of the moment thing. The Old Forester wasn't bad, really. On the back porch, now with some

OFBB. You guys think/ know if it's the same mashbill, just aged 12 years?

I buy Bulleit ($34) JB Black ($30) and Old Crow Reserve ($18)... Those are my go to bargain handles.

I could see a Bulleit being perfect in a cigar shop. ATF and all....

I was the liquor runner for my dad's best friend at the legal age of 18, and this thread leads me to recall the good old days. OC 10 handles by the case for $30 and change....the only handles that I ever bought with any regularity.

Brisko,

What store? I'm hitting the Twin Cities soon and in my area the Dickel prices are almost double that. (We can only get 750 and 1L in N. MN)

Cellars in Plymouth had Dickel 12 on sale, not sure if it's still going on. i think the regular price on handles was about $50. Dickel 8 was at a store on Hwy 55 and Winnetka (west side of Winnetka, NOT MGM, but I don't remember the name). That was also a sale price, so who knows if it's still on. The kid at the counter seemed to think it was a closeout but I doubt that since Dickel 8 only showed up recently here.

I also had not seen Dickel in handles prior to this. This would have been mid December.

I've always thought the Eagle Rare handle looked absurdly unwieldy, even for a 1.75L. Up until a few weeks ago VOB was my favorite handle, so this is a well-timed thread with good suggestions for replacements.

I buy 4RYL and Tom Moore BIB in the handles. The Tom Moore is plastic, so I usually decant them pretty quickly into two 750's and drink the rest asap. Considered a EC12 the other day, possibly next time!

I bet those OC 10 handles were tax stripped beauties.

JB Black. I know some people on the board complain about a JB "funk" but to me I like that little bit of yeast flavor in there. JBB isn't the most complex pour, but its reasonably priced, balanced, and versatile which is what I look for in a handle.

My favorite handle is Old Forester BIB. Too bad they don't make it anymore.

My lovely wife brought me home a fresh handle of EW White last night... I knew there was a reason I keep her around. :)

I only drink Pappy 15 from a handle. But in all seriousness, I can get BT handles for $39.99, which, for me, is an amazing value.

I like Ten High straight (now a dusty in MI), Ezra Brooks 90 proof, and Evan Williams black.

Old Crow Reserve is decent??? Regular Old Croak is so dreadful that it's hard for me to imagine any Old Crow branded product could be any good at all. :skep:

It's a lil young and a tad thin but still has some flavors that I enjoy. By far my favorite bottom shelf bourbon. I mostly use it for cocktails.

Maybe I ought to give it a chance... regular Old Crow was just sooo terrible, even mixed with 7UP! :puke:

I rarely purchase handles, but my favorites would definitely be the bottles that keep the shape from the 750ml size. They just look so ridiculous. ER10 springs to mind as one that gives me a good laugh. They make me feel tiny, and those who know me understand how rare that must be. When I heard that Macallan would be removing age statements I purchased a 1.75L Macallan 12, which is shaped the same as the 750ml size, to put away for the future. Don't know if they ever will drop the AS, but the family size bottle gives me a good chuckle every time I see it.

Conversely, I like to get airplane bottles and pretend I'm a giant.

Funniest handles to me are Bulleit, 1792, and of course Willet Pot Still. So goofy.
