Crow Reserve is a standout among the bottom shelf plastic clad crowd.

Is it any good? As good as Beam White, for instance? I don't think it's a secret that I cruise the bottom shelf pretty hard. But I generally see Crow Reserve only in handles and I'm a little reluctant to get a half gallon of it untasted.

I rarely purchase handles, but my favorites would definitely be the bottles that keep the shape from the 750ml size. They just look so ridiculous. ER10 springs to mind as one that gives me a good laugh. They make me feel tiny, and those who know me understand how rare that must be. When I heard that Macallan would be removing age statements I purchased a 1.75L Macallan 12, which is shaped the same as the 750ml size, to put away for the future. Don't know if they ever will drop the AS, but the family size bottle gives me a good chuckle every time I see it.

I love those Mac 12 handles, they're like the easy-reader version.

Do you guys remember the guy with the gallons of Old Fitz? That would make Andre the Giant look small (and might have quenched his thirst, too)>

Crow Reserve is a year older (4) and higher proof (86) which moves it to the head of the plastic platoon in my estimation but only so long as the price is kept low. Move it up the price scale and it looses it's appeal because Evan Williams Black it ain't.

For a volume mixer though it is a cut above the Canadians in flavor.

I always end up grabbing a handle of EW Black keep it around for mixing. IMO it is a great value and a darn good mixer. For scotch, I run through a couple JW black handles each year. I primarily use this one as a flask filler for the Golf Course or sporting events and what not.

Wish there was a better sipping bourbon available here in 1.75L, other than Woodford Reserve.

The only handles I see in the Bay Area are total bottom-shelf 80-proof stuff...no sippers among them. It must a be a California thing... :frown:

post-7099-14489820355386_thumb.jpg This is my current favorite handle, along with the OWA paper labels. They just look so classy.

Those would be my choices if they were readily available. Too bad you can't get ORVW or 4R SB by the handle.

My favorite handle is Old Forester BIB. Too bad they don't make it anymore.

I usually don't buy a lot of handles. Yesterday, I checked out a place for the first time and came away with a family size Old Forester 100. $35 out the door for one of my favorite off the shelf pours.

OWA

Bought four handles yesterday with case and cash discount and got bottles down to $36.25 each. Couldn't pass it up.

Supply on Weller has been dropping dramatically in Texas for months now. Not sure the reason. The stores can't get orders filled.
