Has Anyone Ever Retired from the Hunt and Lived to Tell About it?

I didn't drink bourbon until shortly after getting married (not related, I swear) so my money was a bit tied up buying a house anyway. I never got too into special releases as a result, and I'm glad now. My cabinet consists of OGDBiB, WT101, OWA, Elijah Craig 12, etc and I enjoy them all. MY most expensive bourbon is Blanton's, which I enjoy sparingly. Just a matter of money; I'm a welder, I make enough to live a comfortable life but not a superfluous one. My philosophy is no bourbon or whiskey is worth going into debt over, especially with kids. I have my son coming in 4 weeks, and I will easily be able to afford my $20-$30 once a month or so.

I'm in the same boat as you, Bing, but only a year or so behind. Once we have kids, my bourbon hunting/buying/consumption may decrease a fair amount. I haven't been serious about bourbon for all that long, but trying to make the time I have spent count while still being reasonable about it.

If I've learned one thing along my bourbon journey it's that keeping my wife happy along the way is the key to sustaining whatever is going on in my bourbon world at the moment. Sometimes I get caught up reading a thread on here or chatting to a few members, etc and forget to pay attention to her for...ahem...hours in a night. I suppose it's a good thing she's sleeping right now. :)

It's easy to say all of this now that 'hunting season' is over. Let's see who has REALLY retired 10 months from now...

There is no season - whiskey never sleeps.

I've decided I only chase after wheaters (dusty or not). I simply can't afford to buy up all the newest releases, let alone the coveted dusty ryes/blends.

Does that make me semi-retired?
