Has anyone ever had the opportunity to taste all of the EW brands in one night? I would like to know how you would rate them?

Here is what I know that is out there:

EWSB

EW1783

Ew grn lbl

Ew blk lbl

Ew whit lbl Bib

Oh almost forgot the one in HHGS .. 24 yo for $450!!

I guess we could go further with EWSB yrs.

I have tried all but the Bib.

We tasted in one night the grn ,1783,and ewsb 2002,2003

My order would be:

EWSB 2002

EW1783

EWSB2003 (this was the end of the btl, would like to try a fresh one against it)

Ew grn lbl

Ew blk

(only cause I can't recall the blk,but I might actually rate that higher than the grn just from recollection)

I have tried the blk lbl long time ago and can't remember anything about it other than I thought it was a good value for the money.Recently tried the grn lbl, which I have not seen around these parts, this one came from the FL. keys from a friend on vacation,(didn't even bring me one back!)

What say ye?

I've not had the Green label, but I have tasted the rest, I believe, though not all at once. I have done EWB, EWBIB, and 1783 head-to-head-to-head, though. I'd also add the EWSB 04 to the mix.

Here's how I'd rank them:

EWSB 2004 (by a fair margin)

EWSB 02 and 03 were good but unremarkable. I think a SB should be at least a little remarkable so I put them at the bottom.

The rest, well, it really depends on my mood. I like the higher proof and big flavor of the BIB, but it also can come across a little young and harsh. 1783 has some nice vanilla and spice notes that aren't as present in either the BIB or EWB. And EWB is just so damn easy to drink. For the record, I try to keep all three on hand.

I would rank them as follows:

EWSB

1783

EWB

EWW

The single barrel has the most flavor, balance and complexity, good price as well. 1783 is just a bit fuller than EWB, which itself is the most remarkably consistent value brand out there. EWB is like an ordinary car that doesn't win any races but cranks every time you need to use it. EWW would be higher on my list but it can at times come across as rough around the edges.

I didn't list the green because I don't like it, just varies too much. I've had some EWG that was a reasonably decent drink and some that was thin, harsh and hot.

I've only had EWB and EWW... and agree with what Brisko and Squire have said.

Handles of EWB are easily the most purchased bourbon in my house. Like the aforementioned gents have already stated, it's so damn easy to drink, and so reliable, at an unbeatable price... it's hard to stay away from.

I also agree with the sentiment that EWW, while stronger flavored with a fuller body, can also be a bit too harsh around the edges. Sometimes I go crazy and do varying ratios of EWW and EWB mixes for any given pour. 60/40 usually... Nothing mathematical, just pour on a whim. What can I say, I like to live on the edge. ;)

As usual, it is impossible to disagree with the Squire. I had a nice pour of EWSB 2000 last night (carefully rationing it) as the best of the EWSB in my experience since '96. The other three I buy by the handle. EWB is available in OH. The others I stock when traveling.

Haven't had any of the vintages, but I enjoy both the black and white label quite a bit, but the white label is something I always try to keep on hand and enjoy quite a bit more.

Flyfish, I had a 2000 1B that just got better and better, the farther down it went. By the end of the bottle, I thought it was one of the best bourbons I'd had to that point. The EWB is the only handle I buy, used mainly for cooking/baking, but darn good enough to drink on its own.

Well I suppose if they mean that much to you, I will try to include them all in my future posts.I didn't realize my grammar was being scrutinized out here.:thankyousign:

Evan Williams black label is a good, solid, if unspectacular standard bourbon that's a very good value.

Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage is one of the best standard bourbons on the market, and a very good value.

I don't much care about the other expressions.

It's just conversation d, we wouldn't kid you if we didn't like you.

I know squire, I had to reply with something , I meant it in the same way. Didn't take it personal by any means.

Plus, you're using too MANY characters, not too few.

We speak in code here.

EW blk lbl? Nah. That's EWB.

Found a few EWSB 1998s on the road to Houston yesterday! I really enjoyed the 2000 and 2003. Really great value at $25. Looks like Houston might get a little icy tomorrow... Guess I should stay inside and crack that 98!!

Back on topic, here's my take.

I haven't had the Green Label, the BIB, or the 1783. Those don't make it out here. I'll get my hands on a BIB sooner or later.

I think Evan Williams Black is a great value. Definitely my pick of the value bourbons available to me in Utah. That said...

Thanks to michaelturtle I got a 200ml bottle of age stated EWB 86 proof, the middle iteration in the lessening of EWB from what it used to be. Drank them side by side with some friends and it was unanimous that the 7 year was much better. I haven't bought an EWB for a while, because I bought a bunch of HH6 BIB, my choice for a basic HH profile.

I really dig Evan Williams Single Barrel. When I first got into bourbon, I didn't like it much because I was too absorbed in high proof pours. Thanks to the praise it gets here, I eventually revisited it and loved it. I should have started buying these in 2008, but I've managed to get a bottle from each vintage back to 1999, plus a 1988. Right now I have the 1988 open, and an "April Fool's" 12 year old 2003, actually distilled in 2001. I found that one in a little mountain town in Colorado, after I heard about it here. It's a really great bottle. The '88 is really enjoyable as well, and I love that it's obvious that it was distilled before DSP-KY-31 burned. The years when Heaven Hill had no still and was depending on their neighbors can be identified as well.

Overall, 2002 has been my favorite vintage thus far.

These make a great display piece as well, and an easy thing to collect, if that's something you like to do. As for me, I hope to get the chance to drink at least one bottle of each vintage.

Don't hold your breath...you might want to be careful on the the over passes though. I have actually seen those ice up before, once. Let us know how that 98 is. I've passed on some 96s before and sort of regret it.

'96 is a very important year in the history of Heaven Hill. Hope they cross your path again.
