bluesbassdad
I happened upon the website of a bourbon whose name I choose not to mention. Maybe I'm just too cranky today, but I read something that I found annoying, as a fan not only of straight bourbon, but straight talk as well. The text included the following statement:"...we have dedicated ourselves to only the highest quality bourbon that not only meets, but also exceeds our highest expectations."Having tasted the bourbon in question, I can say that it failed even to meet my expectations, but that's not my point. Others may find it more to their liking.Regardless of how good the bourbon is, how can anyone be dedicated to exceeding one's own expectations? How can anyone believe that such tortured verbiage sells bourbon? I get the impression that the statement in question is the ad writer's equivalent of a wild pitch. Or perhaps it was intended to be gently self-mocking, similar to the show business billing of "Together again for the first time".Yours truly,Dave Morefield
Paradox
I know it didn't matter to you what others feel about it but I didn't think_it was that bad Dave. I know you always say you note pencil shavings (if it is JR and not SH you were talking about), but everyone has a different taste. Do I think it is over priced? Yes. Are they tooting their own horn a bit with that statement? Probably. But what else are they really going to write... Not all the sites may 'toot' to that degree, but they do all tout their product as the best and they should. Hell, read the Makers Mark site under craftsmanship. It still says there that they rotate barrels, and from what I hear that is not even true anymore, but who really knows. Anyways, I take the way you read their statement as reading way too much into it but hey its your opinion and we're all entitled to them... Because we all know what opinions are like

bluesbassdad
Ha! I should have known that someone with the screen name "paradox" would resonate to a claim that the purveyors expect to exceed their own expectations. Reminds me of what the owner of the Washington Redskins said about coach George Allen. "I gave him an unlimited budget, and he exceeded it." Upon reflection, I realize that I should have omitted the reference that connected to a comment I made in another post about one of the bottlings. I intended to mock the out-of-control use of language, not the folks who make a living selling the bourbon.
