fishnbowljoe
The announcement did supposedly come out a while back. I wasn't referring to that. What I mentioned, happened before the "official/unofficial" announcement. The tour that Paul and I took was in April of last year.
mbroo5880i
I thought that it was well established that FR makes Bulleit. I guess I should clarify. That is my perception, based on various things that I read, and the reason that I don't purchase it. Who knows if my perception is rooted in fact. Besides, I would trust Chuck over a tour guide  http://chuckcowdery.blogspot.com/2008/09/who-makes-bulleit-bourbon.htmlEither way, I can find FRSmB cheaper than Bulleit and FRSB cheaper than Bulleit 10. I agree that the average consumer doesn't know or care and probably considers them as independent products.
dementedavenger
When you see a lot of something on the shelf, it could be because it came in just a little before you did. If you see a lot of the same thing on the same shelf two weeks later, then maybe it's not selling that well. Or maybe Diageo (unlike some other producers) waited until it had plenty of product in the pipeline to make sure it wouldn't have outs.I should have clarified; I'm not seeing the product turnover and I'm seeing steep discounting. In other words, it appears to be sitting on shelves and retailers are discounting to get it out the door. That's just what I've observed. Also, there's an enormous lack of buzz surrounding the product within the bourbon nerd community. It's not like Weller 12 suddenly flew off the shelves because Joe First-Time Bourbon Drinker started buying it up.
PaulO
Around here, Bulleit 10 is near $50 out the door. That seems a bit high for a couple years older regular Bulleit. .
callmeox
I am in no way arguing with you guys. Just passing something along. Paul and I went on a tour of FR's Cox's Creek during the sampler last year. At one point in the tour when we had a little break, Paul asked the inevitable question. "Does FR's makes the distillate for Bulleit?" Our tour guides answer was, "No. FR's does not make anything for Bulleit." Just saying'. Most everybody is pretty positive that FR's make's the distillate for Bulleit, but……...:skep:I was at the local specialty whiskey bar last night and as I paged through their spiffy three ring bound spirits menu (sorted by maker/distiller), I found Bulleit listed under "Bourbon from Four Roses". :grin:I don't think there's any question that Bulleit has been made by Four Roses since the Seagrams days, but the contract will end at some point. With the growth that FR is seeing, they're going to want to keep as much of their production and warehouse space for their own brands.
squire
I thought the contract ran out in 2012, at least officially.
sutton
Doesn't Bulleit buy and age their own whiskey? I thought they did, so I assumed that Bulleit 10 would still be FR ... or did they buy 10 year old whiskey for it?
Restaurant man
No one asks for the ten year in my place. Bullet rye seems to sell well. Maybe it's the frontier back story?

BigBoldBully
same bottles (in boxes) have been on the shelves near me for what now seems like ages, at $35, gathering dust.

Sydney BJW
I for one are happy that we have Bulleit 10 year old in Australia. Our regular Bulleit is bottled in the UK and is 40%. The 10 year old comes from the USA and is 45.6%. The price difference hers is around $40 for the 40% and $60 for the 10 year old. The disadvantages of living in a country were the have higher taxes the higher the alcohol content is.
Dolph Lundgren
Have a hard time even considering the B10 when I can get a BP 10yr+ FRSB at CS at the same price point.

JPBoston
Only had one pour of the 10 year, at a packed bar, rushing to get to a Pearl Jam concert, so maybe my opinion is not completely valid... BUT --- yech!!! Very bitter and and off-putting. I was not a fan at all. I much prefer the regular Bulleit. Sales wise... I have no idea, I never even look for it on the shelf. I remember that the one time I went into a 'mom and pop' liquor store, the guy behind the counter really tried hard to push the Bulleit 10 on me. I just smiled politely and got the hell out of there. BourbonGuy
I thought regular Bulleit was very good. So I sprung for the 10 year. I was disappointed. What makes it worse is the $$ I spent. Think I can ask Tom Bulleit for a refund?
squire
Doubtful that Tom is allowed a say in the matter.
BigBoldBully
Wow. I'd buy at least one at that price. But considering EC12 is older, higher proof, and about $10 less, I guess it makes sense B10 sits.Yes, along with a few other options that are more attractive (to me, at least). OFBB is around the same price, 8-year 1792 is still available at under $20--not to mention 4R1B for less than 10-year bulleit. Normally I would be curious about a 10-year bourbon I have not tried, but based on what I have read I can't help but view it as a mediocre, overpriced version of 4R1B. smokinjoe
OK whiskey. Will not be a repeat purchase for me, though. Simply, nothing really stands out for me with it. Then, throw in the price...
WAINWRIGHT
I would tend to agree with Joe on this one.A little too drinkable and forgettable and throw in the higher price compared to any and all regular release FR product and at an oddball proof and it was a one hit wonder for me as well. jwacky
I guess if you want a positive spin on it, at least there's a brand ADDING an age statement. Not particularly old and the price doesn't really make sense to me, and to my tastes it's just OK, but it's not something I'd ever purchase for myself. ramblinman
Picked up a bottle for a buddy of mine to celebrate him having a kiddo on the way. I knew he liked Bulleit and it was in a box so works well as a gift. This guys a consultant who drinks quite a bit each week, and I don't think he's had more than a few pours out of it.I think its an awkward place in its quality for the price. Doesn't want to mix it because of its premium price, but there's nothing about it that brings you back for a nice neat/rocks drink.
