upStomp
Bonded OGD, but after reading this thread I may check out some EW tonight.
sob0728
Heaven Hill 8 year. $10 for a liter and pretty darn good.I have to agree with this. HH 8/86 for $17 for a 1.75 is a great mixer/rocks sipper to have around. I have heard rumors it is being discontinued but I don't plan to do any hoarding until those rumors are confirmed. bingstein
VOB BIB quite easily. We served VOB BIB and AAA 10 year at our wedding last May. Everyone, from the bourbon and coke folks to the neat folks, raved about each of them. By the time BT dropped AAA 10 year I no longer considered it a true "value" pour, but the VOB is. jwacky
Evan Williams Black for me. Cheap enough when someone makes themselves a double or triple bourbon/coke that I don't cringe, decent enough to drink on its own.

I have enjoyed HH 8/86 for a number of years and have started to bunker some handles.
Trey Manthey
For cocktails on our menu: Buffalo Trace, EC12, or EW Single Barrel (we have a barrel we selected, so certain cocktails are built around that flavor profile). I also like to use Four Roses Single Barrel or OGD114 for certain recipes. If someone asks for a Jack and Coke we use Evan Williams Black.

ratcheer
OGD BIB is still well under $20. It counts in my book as a great value. OGD 114 is sometimes on sale for less than $20 as well and qualifies as an even greater value. (AAA 10YO and VOB 6YO were once my leading candidates.)But, they don't sell the BiB in my ABC state.tim

DaveKingman
One of the local shops sometimes has Buffalo Trace on sale for $32-34 for 1.75L. At that price I have no problem using that as an everyday mixer.

corpse_welder
For mixing, I use EW Black, but I usually only mix with coke, ginger ale or sour mix. My favorite value bourbon by far is WT 101. $15/750ml here, it's the perfect bourbon for those nights where you don't want to sit down and articulate every nuance in the drink. black mamba
EWB for rye recipe mixed drinks, and like squire, I prefer the 1843 wheater for highballs with ginger ale, but I add a dash of Angostura bitters as well.
Grain Belt
The few times I have purchased it, I was impressed with Benchmark as a mixer. There is a store in the Twin Cities that often runs it for $12.88 a 1.75 so I have picked some up when I am down there. That's pretty good mixing for parties and ballgames for not a lot of cash. I know I can make a better Manhattan with it than the bartenders in 3/4 of the bars up here where the vermouth has been opened since the Carter administration and you have to walk some 20 year old kid with a barbed wire tattoo through how to make one. Benchmark seems to be fine in Ginger Ale or Coke too. As far as my most used mixer over the last 15 years, it would probably be EWB. I have been pleased with EWBIB, OGDBIB,WT101 and OFS when I get a group of guys together that can handle a no-nonsense Old Fashioned. If you have widely read the board you may be familiar with Very Old Heaven Hill 8 year old/86 proof. It is only distributed to MN and RI but is being discontinued. It has been used in my home for many years. I have a local that has been at $10.29 for 1L and $17.99 for 1.75. I am bunkering a few as I get funds. I will be sad when it is off the shelves for good. I made a "Lynchburg" lemonade variation with it for a very fun day on a pontoon last summer.
Creggor
OK If I had to pick one bourbon for the price to drink very day. Neat. With Ice and then with Diet Coke.. It would be Evan Williams Single Barrel.. Day in day out the flavor and quality of EWSB is at the top of my list.. Old Grand Dad 114 and WT 101 are not far behind.. But EWSB is right up there for my bang for the buck..Creggor
loki993
If I need to pick up something cheap for mixers, or just want a good, don't have to think about it bourbon, what to do usually buy?For me, my go to budget bourbon is Ancient Age. It's cheap enough that I don't mind using it in mixers, or letting friends use it in mixers, but i think it is also good enough to drink neat. Sometimes I think to just sit back and have a drink without having to give it any thought.I guess one man's value brand is another's mid-shelf. I was thinking more of the under $15 bottles.Unfortunately we dont have much here under 15 bucks. EW Black is around 15, Beam is 19. Im not a huge fan of the EW so Ill pay the extra 5 bucks and my gotos are usually Rittenhouse 22, Wild Turkey at 20 and maybe bullit. Throw OGD BIB in there too but honestly the 114 is only like 2 buck more here. HH 6 90, HH 6 BIB, OGD114....fairly cheap stuff that is good alone, and I dont mind if someone wants to mix themI went to grab a mixer bourbon a week or so ago needing something with high rye....There was WT 101 at about 20 and OGD BIB at about the same..the 114 was 22 and change so I grabbed that....its great in cocktails.....stands up to anything...makes a great Old Fashioned....though honestly I like the taste so much Ive mostly been drinking it neat

RepTucker
Just had a bottle of Virgin Bourbon (101 proof), Said aged 7 years old on the label, it was ok neat or mixed for 13 bucks. Go to would be VOB BIB, Benchmark 8, and VOB 86. Decent drinks and all for under 15 dollars around here.
