How do you like to drink your bourbon?

I mostly like it neat. If it's a very high proof I may add either a little water or lower proof whiskey to tame it down. I'm not too picky about the vessel, but my favorite is a smallish (~4oz) stemmed Glencairn.

Haha. I like to put my bottle in a brown paper bag first before drinking this way. Seems classy. ;-)

Up to about 100 proof I drink it neat in a chilled low ball glass. Over that I like to put a splash of water in a low ball glass and keep in the freezer then when I want a pour I pour it over the thin film of ice that has frozen in the glass, interesting to taste the change as the ice begins to melt.

How do I like to drink my bourbon? Its best with good friends and family. Some are really starting to enjoy my collection. Sharing it makes it taste just a little better.

I drink my bourbon neat, when trying something for the first time. I'll add a little water, or even a cube, just to see how the flavor profile changes.

I enjoy a lot of my pours over a very thin layer of crushed ice. The ice usually melts pretty quickly and slightly cools the bourbon. During hot weather, I'll sometimes keep a standard in the freezer for quick pours (Dickel is a favorite for this).

I usually try to start with drinking new things neat. Though for most everyday pours, I like a small bit of ice.

Some women I know do a simmilar thing except they substitute the bottle of hooch for a tub of ice cream, the concept is constant.

I reserve bottle drinking for special occasions with friends, usually involving an overtly masculine ritual such as cooking a whole animal over coals, hunting, fishing or talking about boobs.

I don't actually leave bourbon in the ice. I use a big ice ball and once it has cooled the bourbon a little I will take the ball out. What I really like about the ice which surprises me is that it takes the strong alcohol vapors away. Really helps to nose a bourbon.

Most of the time neat in a Glencairn at room temp. If it is summertime I will usually put it in the freezer for a while to get it good and cold. Also enjoy it in cocktails when I am out at a restaurant or bar as I am usually to lazy to make my own at home.

Best regards, Tony

Room temp neat about 95% of the time. I use one of these glasses, usually the Glencairn, but the stem is nice for guests.

Over 110 pf I sometimes add a splash of water, or when trying something new, but not often. Ice is used only in summer, for highballs.

Ok.. Most of the time it depends on what I am drinking.. For the better or high end Bourbons.. I have them neat.. Then try with a little ice or Water.. I do this at first with most any Bourbon I have not already tried in the past.. However when i am really thirsty for a nice gulp.. I have Bourbon with Diet Coke.. Some may say no way.. I do not do it all the time.. But when the need for a nice big belt hits me.. That is what I have.. I use what I consider regular bourbons for this.. EWSB is a great everyday drink same for Weller Antique if i want a wheated bourbon.. Wile Turkey Rye goes good with a lot of things..

Straight, unless I'm making an Old Fashioned or putting a nip in my coffee.

I generally use a glass too, unless one is not available... then drinking from the bottle or flask seems to be an effective way to keep from spilling whiskey on myself.

Start everything neat, and add water based on my mood. Rarely add ice (just don't care for it to be that cold). And when at the house, use a Glencairn 95% of the time. Someone told me that was for tasting, not for "drinking" - but I don't ever gulp my bourbon, and typically every pour is enjoyed over 30+ minutes unless a micro pour for tasting purposes. Obviously excludes whiskey sours, eggnog, etc :)

Almost always start neat. Sometimes add water a few drops at a time (depending upon the dram, the proof, the time of day, my mood, etc.). Occasionally like a small cube or even two (again depending upon 'stuff': see above). I kinda like noting the change when the water adds layers to the flavor and aroma as the ice melts.... especially in the summer, out on the picnic table reading. I also derive some pleasure from the clinking of the cubes on side of the glass.... no idea why that is.

I prefer to drink neat, but will add a few drops of water if something is too hot. Never use ice...I think the nose typically gets better and better the more the glass warms up in my hand.

For high proof bourbons, I like to use the giant ice balls.

The shape and surface area/volume ratio make them melt more slowly than smaller cubes.

They slowly melt and the flavor of the bourbon changes as the proof slowly goes down.

I keep my bottles in a basement wine cellar so they probably start at 53 deg before warming to room temp.

You must be in great shape what with running up and down the stairs and making the trip all the way to the faucet just for few drops of water . My fitness regimen is getting out of the La-Z-Boy and walking across the room to the cabinet. Usually, I bring the bottle back with me so as not to over exert.

 Well, I do my drinking upstairs. But you've given me an idea to explain to my wife why I'm not on the treadmill as much - it is the manual stepclimber I'm using ...

You walk all the way across a room?
