Great point - if I encounter a variety of FRSBs, I'll lean towards the OB side unless the age/proof on an OE grabs my attention. And while I love WLW - if I could only have that or GTS, I'd have to leave the WLW behind.

I suspect I would be the opposite and give up GTS for WLW. Although I certainly like rye mashbills as well. It would be interesting to see how the split between GTS and WLW would fall out. I think another kind of touched on this recently but not directly.

I think someone should pour me a flight of 05-13 GTS and WLW so I have enough information to decide for myself.

Triangle 1: Proof & Price, for all the same reasons mentioned above. When some bourbon has the ability to be reasonably matured at 4-7 years old, age becomes less of an issue. If this were a scotch question I'd take Age & Proof in a heartbeat (knowing that I'd pay for it).

Triangle 2: Pretty Label & Cool Bottle. Having a screw top is only helpful when MOKD comes over to rip all of your corks in half.

So the triangle now moves to pretty label, cool bottle, and screw top. :)

What about a tube? A tube screams high quality awesomeness.

Within the context of the original question: age and proof. Only because very low proof (80) is highly unlikely to appeal to me. Flavor sort of skews the balance, because it potentially plays into all 3 legs of the triangle.

I just want a bottle with a picture of an old guy smoking a cigar and maybe a pretty velvet bag.

we need to hire some of the wine marketing people to name some new bourbons for us....walking the wine aisle, you always see some funny names. Other than 'Old Blowhard' I cant think of anything else funny in bourbon names that Ive seen

"Old Asshat" would be interesting.

If age statements keep getting dropped, "Jail bait" might be a good name too

Dickel could change from Dickel #12 to '12" Dickel'. but it'd need to be stiffer than 90 proof. Id love to hear someone ask the clerk if they had a 12" Dickel

I have it on good authority they were on their way; but were delayed by the snow and bad roads.

Keep the porch light on for 'em. Tell 'em I said; "Hey!" :slappin:

I've heard for years they were coming for me, but I think our evil cats keep them at bay :)

I thought more about this, and I think I would have to alter my initial response. It isn't necessarily "price" that is always a consideration as much as is it perceived value. I mean, if they bottled some lousy stuff at higher proof and it was still cheap, that wouldn't get my attention. And if something I love is on-sale for a steal, I may pick up a couple regardless of whether I need them or not.

I have a very particular set of skills...

Iron triangle…like this…will have to start using this term.

I think it is more like the Bermuda triangle. Age and proof keep disappearing and the price to find them keeps going up!

I like the Bermuda Triangle too. Ethical compasses seem to be going haywire in it these days. :)
