Josh
In the midst of a Twitter exchange with Bernie Lubbers to confirm the identity of the new PHC, he also dropped this welcome little nugget of good news So it appears Bernheim will be moving from an NAS to a 7 y/o age stated whiskey. God bless Heaven Hill for bucking the unfortunate NAS trend.

God bless Heaven Hill for bucking the unfortunate NAS trend. If it is not selling that well I suppose they could have a "glut" of it... Can't say I am excited for this. There is a reason no one duplicated the bernheim wheat whiskey mashbill. It will sell quickly based on the success if it's elders. We have exactly 1 customer that regularly buys bernheim. Just one. So maybe a PHC Bernheim would help inspire better sales of the soon to be 7yo regular Bernheim!
miller542
Very glad to see this, I recall this being a very delicate drink so fully aging should help bolster the flavor. I would love to do a side-by-side with the bottle of the initial release I have bunkered and a new age-stated bottle, if only this was available here. callmeox
I'm a fan of the current release so I'm thrilled to try the whiskey with more age on it.Thanks, HH!
jonnyd
The NAS stuff is good enough straight. The 7yr may indeed have enough extra barrel influence that will contribute more flavor.
SMOWK
Cool news. I like the PHC progression. It may be a little slow. But then again, it should be slow, good things come to those who wait. I'm happy waiting for the barrels to come of age.Thou Shalt Drink No Whiskey Before It's Time....to drink whiskey I presume.
cowdery
They're not really bucking the trend but I still like what they're doing. The trend is to reserve age statements for the more premium products, which this certainly is. I'm glad they're doing it, especially glad to see them converting an NAS into an age-stated product. I salute them for fine-tuning a good product, including cutting the price at a time when most were going up, to introduce it to a wider and wider audience. And I salute them for having the guts to create a new category. Although straight wheat has always been on the books, no one (large or small) was making it until they did, and it's a fine product. Will certainly be supporting HH with this one. Larceny and now this are two pretty important steps by HH in my book. Just wish they would market Larceny better. cowdery
Have to give them credit for lowering the price and adding the age statement. Among other things, it shows that they still think age statements have value and they'll use them with a product they're trying to grow.
PaulO
I'm looking forward to this. A little more barrel influence may be a really good thing here.

mosugoji64
I'm a Bernheim fan, but it is a very subtle pour. It has to be the first pour of the night in order to enjoy the flavor. Some SB picks of this have been very nice so I'm looking forward to the age stated and PHC versions.
cowdery
I like it as a change of pace. It's a great addition to the portfolio of American whiskeys.

Harry in WashDC
While I'm partial to high ryes, I bought a Bernheim 7 based on what some crotchety guy wrote about it somewhere else on the internet. Imagine how surprised I was when, 3 weeks after purchase, I'd finished it and put it on my list of things to watch for.I could get into these wheated bourbons. Note to self: Don't call them "wheaters". Some guys get fractious.
Thig
I didn't think Bernheim was a bourbon at all. Not 51% corn, am I wrong.

Harry in WashDC
Indeed. And to compound the problem, I finished 2 oz of JB SigCraft 12 yr BEFORE I logged on, guaranteeing fuzzy thinking. A man's got to know his limitations.
squire
It's the wheat that causes fuzziness Harry, stay away from that stuff.
