Hey guys, check this out, thought you might get a kick out of this, I wonder how many of you have ever got this in their bottle.I don't know how I missed this when I was picking it out,but I did. Which brings up a good thread, has anyone else ever found anything unusual in your bottle? I think I may have won the lottery, but with no payout!! Any ideas? It's about a 1/2" long and is like glued to the bottom of the bottle. What do they use for filtration, part of that? Not even going to try and drink it. Sent an email to HH we'll see what they think. BTW the store was gracious enough to re-imburse me without returning it,as it is in another state.

I'd pour the contents of the bottle out to some appropriate decanter (other bottle, available empty?), and see if the 'inclusion' is part of the glass; or can be poured out to investigate what it may be. You may find it to be some innocuous piece of detritus that has no effect on the Bourbon. Or, at least find out what it is, then you can clue HH into what it is, helping them solve some issue they may not be aware of. ??? Just my Suggestion...

I work in a liquor store. We found a french wine bottle with a perfectly preserved insect floating around.

Well? How was it? Where are your tasting notes?

Might take it back to the store (not sure if it is a regular haunt - I rarely keep receipts for fear "the boss" will find them). They might be able to swap it and get it back to the distributor.

I had a friend who used to work final inspection at a Coca-Cola and you would be amazed what they found in some bottles before shipping.

Miraculously, a single kernel of corn made it through milling, cooking, fermenting, distilling, barrel, aging, dumping, filtering, and bottling!!!!

Or...yeah...it could be one of O's upper lateral incisors...

Looks like a glob of hardened label glue inside the bottle. I'd decant and most likely drink it. That bottle ain't got nothing on a good bottle of mescal (with a formerly live worm in it)!

I was thinking about buying a Jefferson's Presidential Select 21 year a couple months ago for $119, until I noticed a little clump of what looked like a pencil eraser-sized clump of green scouring pad floating around in the bottom of the bottle, and finished doing my homework on the 17/18 years compared to the 21 year release. I suppose I should look over bottles more carefully on a regular basis before buying them.

A friend once found part of a glass pipette in a bottle of BT. They were extremely cool about it. They said the piece probably broke off during the dust evacuation stage -- that is, it was part of the mechanism stuck into each bottle to blow out dust before it is filled.

I once almost swallowed a piece of plastic inside a coke can that looked like the stuff they wrap the cases in, contacted them, and boy they came out quick, a guy in a full sized delivery truck came out and picked it up ,I believe they gave me a couple of cases for it.

I've seen this before. I should have thought to break the glass and see what this mystery material was. The object was completely enclosed in the glass on the one that I found.

Just an update ..still have not heard back from HH on this matter..it's been over a week now....some customer service, other times when I have contacted them ,they got back to me in a timely manner, other times .. never. Here's one from the last contact from them:

We appreciate your long-time patronage of Elijah Craig and hope you continue to enjoy it for many years to come. As a family owned, independent company, Heaven Hill Distilleries takes inquiries from our customers very seriously and hope that our response is evidence of this. Thank you for your patronage of our brand and if I can be of further assistance, please let me know.

I've seen similar white flakes in glass before. I don't know if it's ceramic bits from the kiln they are made in or what, but I don't think it would affect the bourbon at all. I had a bottle of Beam (I think it was....) that had a little white fleck in the glass too.

Speaking to a bloke in a store yesterday. He said that the store recently got a shipment of 4R SB - bottles had shards of glass in them!

I may have misstated that, I have only contacted them maybe 3-4 times over a few yrs. and out of them they only got back to me once in a timely fashion. Yeh, that sounds better.

Hey Paddy , It may come to that, I do want to try it.

Did you ever get an answer, or drink it? I think I have its little brother in a bottle of Stagg Jr. The only unusual thing I can detect in mine is a slight hint of broccoli, which sort of melds together in the overall flavor profile and works for me - doubt it's due to the inclusion, which in my case seems fully enclosed in the glass.
