Paddy
Always loved me some kickin' chicken (101) and drank more than my share in the 80's and 90's. Currently, I'm more fond of the RB (and have never been disappointed). The RR offerings have been all over the place and inconsistent, so I tend to stay in the standard WT family. I also just finished a bottle of the RR rye and still can't figure out if I liked it or not!?!
Harry in WashDC
ebo and Paddy got me thinking (always dangerous as after a few pours you can't shut me up). One attraction of SB for me is its (that is, "your") encouraging me to get out of my rut and try new things. Forty years of drinking leads to bad habits when one can afford to move upshelf - one tends to forget the old favorites. Thanks to you all, I now keep at least 1+ bottles each of OGDBIB, OGB114, and WT101 on hand (along with some other "value" buys like EWB). When I can't decide what I want, these satisfy like a double whopper with cheese does. :yum:
flahute
Haha! Right on Harry. Thanks all for the replies and suggestions. Rare Breed has been on my radar for a while now but I decided to start lower on the shelf and I'm really glad I did. Of some of the other suggestions, I currently enjoy OGDBIB (and OGD114) for the same reason - good flavor at an incredible price point. Given some of the replies I'll seek out some of the other BIB's. I still love my bottle of Stagg, but one can't live in that rarified air every day so I'm really enjoying finding some great pours that are both available and affordable. TLH-Mike
I like the 101 very much. I tried the Russell's Reserve 10 and thought it was "ok." Would love to find a Wild Turkey 101 from the good old days, often referenced here as being superior to the current offering.

If you haven't had it . . . remember, ignorance is bliss I sorta wish I hadn't ever tried any gold foil or split label nonsense, as I wouldn't know what I'm missing. GaryT
I would be pissed at myself if I discover that my new favorite is an $80 bottle that can only be found a few times a year and only with extreme hunting.
TunnelTiger
Opened my bottle last night and either my palate has changed or the bottle I had months ago was bad because I found this one very enjoyable and at $19.99 a fantastic pour!

I saw your post on the purchase thread that you were inspired to try it again because of this thread so I was going to feel bad if you opened this one up and still didn't like it.I'm going out to day to pick up a bottle now that the little sample bottle is empty. Max Power
My handle of 101 is nearly empty. When it's gone, I'll be tempted to pick up another, but I need to focus on my other bottles first. When I get rid of some of those, I'll definitely get another WT101. I just love all things WT.
Restaurant man
Bingo. Even though I have a lot of very nice stuff, I often like reaching for an old reliable pour. WT 101 is one of those for me. Pour 2-3 ounces, float a cube, nurse for hours. Cheers!Damn. How do you make it last for hours. I have to keep refilling mine every 20 minutes.  Gets tiring after a while. hn4bourbon
The only times I have managed to nurse a 2-3oz pour for more than 40 mins is when I'm in a hotel and that was the only pour available or I fell asleep midway through.
Max Power
Damn. How do you make it last for hours. I have to keep refilling mine every 20 minutes.  Gets tiring after a while.Maybe it's more like 1-1.5 hours, but I don't generally drink that fast. When I do sit down for pours, it's usually .5 ounces or less that last for 20 minutes or so...and then repeat. So quite often 3 ounces can last me 2+ hours. With the long pour, I'm usually working or hanging out with Mrs. Power and watching a game of some kind. I've got lots of distractions...which is why I only ever put in one cube at the most (to not get watered down). There's times where 4-5 ounces can disappear in an hour too, but that's not the norm for me. 2-3 ounces of one to six things over the course of 3 hours is probably more the norm. If I really want something to last, I'll make Jameson/Ginger Ale or WT101 & Coke Zero (phenomenal if you haven't tried it...the cinnamon flavor stands out) and I'll share with Mrs. Power. flahute
After finishing my sample bottle that was inspiration for this thread, I picked up a full bottle last weekend. The first pour from it didn't hit me the same way, but the second pour last night was right on. I don't know if it needed the proverbial air time or if I was just off the night of the first pour. Now I'm one of those guys that's cursed with the taste that if you give me a list of things to choose from with prices concealed, I'll best like the most expensive thing on the list pretty much every time so I'm floored that I like this whiskey as much as I do at its price point. In this era of needing to scramble for allocated items and shortages of the regular stuff I have to again state how thrilled I am to have found something I really like that I can always find and it's less than $20. Take that expensive tastes!

jonnyd
Had some 101 on the rocks at a local bar Friday. All of the big boys were represented with the exception of HH. Having missed the BT hiding behind other bottles I chose the 101 as it was the more interesting beating out MM, JD, JB White and Early Times. Basil Hayden's was there but that wasn't an option. Why pay for weak OGD. Point: 101 on the rocks is a winner in my book.
393foureyedfox
ive enjoyed it while out several times lately. Often, its the best thing on the bar at a regular restaurant, and a reliable enjoyable drink. Ive only seen one bar/restaurant around here that has HH on it, though I wish more did, at least the 6 year BIB.
