Grew up with a dad who drank Crown Royal and Seagrams 7. I had started out drinking Jim Beam and ginger ale back in school. One day I was offered a taste of Bookers at a local store. Thought to myself, how different can it be. All bourbon was basically the same. Wow, realized how wrong i was. I had no idea that there was a whole other level of quality out there. So I thought, "Let's see what else is out there". And now....

Jim Beam white in 1993 (there was Jack Daniels in college in Tennessee, but it paled in comparison in my and my friends' view), Glenfiddich 12 in 1994, Talisker 10 in 1995. The Talisker was a real turning point that opened my eyes to the potential that whis(e)y could hold. Sad to see Diageo pricing it above the point where newcomers are likely to think it's a small price to pay to try a new category of whiskey.

Bought my first bottles of ORVW10 & Lot B back in '08 or '09 when you could find it everywhere, but never really took to them. They sat in the cabinet getting opened on special occasions or when guest would come over as my taste for bourbon never really took off like I had envisioned. Then this past April found a bottle of 4RSBLE '13 and it has been down hill since. That bottle did not last very long at all! It was the first time I drank something that made my mouth water and want more with every sip. I have been hooked ever since and been playing catchup the best I can in filling the old liquor cabinet and the new bar I got for Christmas from the wife with some best juice one can create. Makes me wish I had tried harder back when I fist bought those bottle of ORVW when you could find it and other much cheaper and it be available.

I always drank bourbon and ginger ale and only bought anything more than $15 when I was aiming to impress. Then I moved to KY for law school, house sat for a professor after graduation and he had a bottle of Stagg. End of story.
