No major preference either way more important how it taste. But hearing from dusty on the cork taint issues, a screw cap is what I voted. To note, on a dusty VVOF12 I had, it came in as a screw cap and was wonderful how easy to open and no taint. On another VOF10, it was a cork and broke as I opened it. Both tasted fantastic but the screw cap was much prefer there.

On modern bottles, I had a bottle that had the screw cap thread stripped on day one. Then also, on cork, I had some that is super tight such as some ECBP or other super loose like the JPS.

For cork, one oddities I found is there are so many different sizes.

I prefer screw tops Japanese style - those things are just about perfect. The screwtops on the SB-HHSS left a lot to be desired.
I agree with ChainWhip about the Japanese style Screwtop. Nikka's in particular is both classy and unlikely to drop cork gunk into my whisky.

Overall I'd say my preference doesn't play much of a part in my purchasing decisions, just that I appreciate a screw top if I'm going to be storing something for a few years or end up with a garbage cork. I've never been lucky enough to find any bourbon dusties though, so my garbage cork experiences have all been with dusty bottles of scotch.

I totally agree about Nikka's screwtops. I love the feel of the slightly rubberized heavy-duty plastic. It's got some real heft to it.

I don't have a strong preference but I have had occasional problems with a cork stopper. I do rather like the appearance and sound of a opening a bottle with a cork closure. So far I haven't had a problem with a synthetic cork on spirits so that would probably be my first choice (wine may be a different issue but I don't know for sure). So I voted cork but wonder if perhaps real cork versus synthetic cork versus screw top might be a better set of choices?

Initially I considered breaking the cork selection out by natural and synth but decided against it. As the latter is still rare in the macro world, the selections on this poll are as presented.

I voted cork because I like to think I'm fancy. As Bruce pointed out earlier, I think I would vote synthetic cork over a screw top any day.

I voted cork because I'm old and I'm tired of having to except everything new. period.

If you have an old cork I recommend using an AH-SO cork puller. Besides pulling the cork out whole you can replace the cork easily.

My pragmatism required I vote for screwcap. I like the sound of a cork, but would give that up to not lose any whiskey over cork issues.

Synthetic cork because I love the feel and sound of uncorking. Synthetic because I've had too many dusty corks turn into a crumbling mess. Buffalo trace corks work great in all my dusty wild turkey bottles.

If only there was a plastic handle/cork combo, I'd be in heaven. For now I have to settle for decanting to get the cork love.

How many low-fill WT101 8yo bottles do you have to pass on until you develop a preference for screw-tops? ;)

I've grown tired of pulling broken corks out of good bottles of good whiskey.

I think they should definately switch to synthetic corks. I like the feel so a cork over a screwcap, but nothing more frustrating that getting a great bottle with cork taint or a crumbling cork.

As much as I like the pop of a cork, screw tops are more stable and seal well

Just had another new screw cap bottle have a slow leak in a package because it apparently wasn't tightened adequately presumably when bottled. Similar to the problem some had with the HHSS. Another reason for me to think artificial corks would be more desirable.
