weller_tex
Has anyone actually tried the new NAS VOB? The little store where I get the 86 proof VOB has then 6 year and the NAS on the shelf at the same time. I bought the 6 year obviously. I'd like to say I stopped buying it on general principle but the 86 proof 6 year VOB is just so darn refreshing...really a nice combo of everything that is good about bourbon. wadewood
I bought the 86 proof VOB fake age statement and tried it next to real. No noticeable difference, but give it time. I think they will gradually lower age until it sucks.
Quantum
I did not do a side by side, but the NAS version seemed pretty solid. I would stock up on it now if I had any room, because I would put money on Wade being correct about the quality slowly dropping over time.
Harry in WashDC
Both open, both tasted over a two-week period, but not every day. I won't say there is not a difference, but I get more of a difference one day to the next on either one or both based on what I've eaten within two hours before tasting them than I do between the 6 yr and the "6". I'll try them SBS without recent food one of these days.AND, I like them both. AND, at the price, how could I not?
weller_tex
Yeah I agree..just like OWA and WSR it will go down in time as it gets younger and younger. Good to hear that it doesn't suck right out of the gate.

Could Barton be sending bourbon to BT as BT is short and they have the same owner? Pretty much all the BT lines would be more profitable than VOB AS BIB I would think. The good news is Vad, that it's still early in the transition, and even if the NAS, it's probably very similar in taste profile. The few taste reports coming in on the new are promising. So, you probably will do fine.

The problem they have, is basically not enough rickhouse space. Their rickhouses are full. They have to wait for their bourbon to age long enough to be able to bottle it. FWIW, I believe there might have been some talk that BT may be aging some of their bourbon in Barton warehouses. This is speculation. It kinda makes sense though. Both are owned by Sazerac, and Barton was not distilling, and was pretty much on a shutdown for an extended period of time not too long ago. Not speculation; I saw BT barrels at a Barton rickhouse last year at Sampler.
