My daily pour or if this is cheaper, what is my new daily pour

I was thinking today, as I was reading the discussion on Blanton's being over priced in the OWA shortage thread such as in comparison to ETL, could that if something is cheaper, it would be someone's preference.

I was thinking for myself, what would that be. I normally just buy and drink what I like and it's usually availability that prevent me from buying it not really how expensive or cheap. But let's keep it reasonable so nothing like if PVW23 is $50 . . .

So at this moment, what is or could be your daily pour if so and so is at this price for anything below this price. I know our preference are different but within your own selection, availability in your location, and your price comfort zone, what is your thoughts.

I'll start and my answer is that I don't see anything beating ECBP or SB Blend for me and they are priced just fine. I don't know at the moment what cost less than $75 or even $100 that I would prefer to drink daily over this that is somewhat easy to obtain. Fortunately, for me right now, I have enough bunker to last a little while.

Perhaps, this thread will help us go outside our own comfort zone and try something new.

Are you asking what our favorites are or what our second favorites are? I just wanted to make sure I understood you. ;)

I want my daily pour to be lazy... no experimenting with blends (except when it's "prescribed" like SB blend) or addition of water/ice; and I prefer something in the 90-100 proof range to casually drink neat. To that end, my favorite pop-n-pour bourbons right now are PHC 7th, FR SmB LE 2013 and SB Blend.

I would buy a lot more PHC 7th if it was in the $60-70 range. The FR is outrageously good and is priced right for its quality, just wish I could get more. The SB Blend is a downright bargain.

I know it's hard to do, but I wish people would leave price out of the equation when discussing taste. On taste alone and considering only "currently" (made within the last ~10 years) offerings that are not "one-offs" my dailies would be ORVW/107, ECBP, FR barrel proof, VWFRR, and I'll throw ETL and OWA in there too.

FR Private Selections usually run $55-$60 here. The quality/price ratio on those are great, but it's still too expensive to drink every time I feel the itch. If they were $40-$45 they'd be my daily pour. Predictably good, but each barrel is different enough to keep me interested.

I guess my ideal 'daily pour' could be Henry McKenna 10-year Single barrel BIB, if it were $10 cheaper (I'm a skinflint by nature and heritage, being part Dutch, part Scottish).

Hell; if I actually drank a pour every day, I'd probably enjoy it less, and want it even cheaper than that!

I think the whole "daily pour" concept implies that price is a factor. If it was taste alone, my favorite whiskies would be daily pours.

I'm not wealthy by any means, but price is not a factor when it comes to flavor for me. Especially since most of the really good stuff in on the mid-shelf anyway. Every thread I've seen discussing your favorite always includes statements like "well, for the price I like this" or something similar. I would like to know what people like regardless of price.

If it were readily available and less expensive, I would drink RHF for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

My standards based on taste, value/pricing and availability are currently Dickel rye and the SB Blend.

The W12 shortage certainly can and will impact the availability of the "blend", but I was fortunate enough to be able to "bunker up" in anticipation of the dreaded BT shortages.

I would too, but not in the thread about daily (which I think means good but inexpensive) pours. Flavor is flavor, but I think a great "daily pour" comes with an implicit price caveat regardless of whether someone says so or not. Otherwise, this would be a "what is your favorite whiskey" thread. Maybe I'm off here but I think they are different discussions.

Weller 12 is my "everyday" bourbon. As others said, "daily" implies value / price considerations.

I'd go with ETL. About the time I'd experimented enough to settle on ETL as my go-to pour, the ETL-well started to dry up around here. Couple months ago, I could find several on the shelf at just about any store I visited. Now I can't find a single bottle anywhere.

I like 4RSB, and my value pour is Larceny at the moment. Still need to try some OGD114.

And while I prefer Straight Bourbon to Tennessee Whiskey, I've recently become enamored with JDSB.

Good call, OGD 114 for sure.

See, to me "daily" also implies availability considerations. I thought about also going with ETL but I can't really go with that when everytime I go for a pour of it I say to myself, "Wup, better go easy on this until I get a backup bottle."

Very true. Good call. ETL not quite that rare in these parts but it can't be a daily pour if you can't find it whenever you want to.

Yes, more a daily pour favorite so relatively available and price reasonably that you can have a pour every day that you happen to drink.

Definitely, I was expecting ETL, McKenna 10 BIB, W12, and 4RSB.

I would love to drink PVWFRR or 4RSmLe if they were more available. I have a bunch bunker but the fact that it is hard to replenish took them off my daily pour even though one is usually always open in my bar. I have stated, at one point PVW15 was my daily pour then it went to LotB in the last couple of years. But if these could be a daily pour, we would love to hear that as well.

Cheers

my favorite is Dickel 9 year, but, it doesnt do it for me everytime....I have to be in the mood for it, and when I am, nothing else is better.

aside from that, my dailies are HH 6 year 90 and BIB (and I'm quite happy with them, theyre not daily pours just because theyre dirt cheap), and if I ever felt like buying them....KC and WT101 would be regulars, but I leave those for restaurant pours when they have nothing interesting to try.

so there, my 5 listed are $9, $10, $18, $25, and $45.

I dont think price is a good indicator of what is in the bottle, particularly with new distillers/NDP's/limited edition big-names.

Anything that's currently in production and not a "one-off" counts in my book. You could easily find ETL in markets that normally stocked it until ~6 months ago (just like many BT products). Temporary shortages don't count as "special" to me. Less than a year ago I found some wax top ETL that had been sitting on shelves, in a popular store, for close to a decade.

If you are not able to drink your daily pour for 180 days (6 months) how exactly is that a DAILY pour?

Price is definitely not always a good indicator, as I've got a $80 bottle that is probably the worst thing I own. The only thing keeping it from being tossed is "it cost $80", so I'm hoping to find someone who likes it.

DCBT, also a good point about calling something a daily pour when you know you can't replace it. Hopefully I can find a pile of ETL soon and buinker enough bottles to drink it more often.

I don't follow? I can drink ETL any time I want. I bought 2 cases last year. I'm guessing you didn't discover ETL until there was already a temporary shortage? My point is that's not normal. You can usually go to several stores throughout Houston and Dallas and get ETL.

You make it sound like it has been discontinued. It's just a temporary shortage.
