I know we have discussed this many times but it's been a little while and I don't think we had ever done a poll to collate the data.

So, what's your favorite between wheater, rye regular bourbon, rye, and aged rye.

I think some may question the separation from rye to aged rye, but I think the aged rye is quite different to the regular rye that some people would prefer one and not the other, like me. :)

I'm voting for wheater which is may utlimate favorite. If there is one bottle or type that I can carry to my island it would be a good wheater. Second would be an aged rye.

cheers

I had to go with rye bourbon, but I don't know if these choices are fair (at this point no one has picked straight rye, and I predict it will get very little love since there is an aged rye option; I mean - if someone said rye bourbon or aged wheater bourbon - I likely would be a flip-flopper).

This will be interesting none the less! Is there an option to allow folks to force rank? I think that would be really interesting to see what comes in second, and last.

The "all of the above" option doesn't seem to be working for me

My feeling as well. I'd like to be able to change my vote daily, please.

i thought the same thing. Generally id take ryed bourbon, but wheated bourbon is a VERY close second. picking one or the other seems wrong.

I don't have one favorite mash-bill. If I can, I'd have at least one of each in my cabinet at all times. The hardest one to procure is the aged rye. That is if you want anything much older than old enough to be called straight rye. The aged ryes are few and far between, plus crazy expensive. Also, the wheated bourbons have gotten much harder to find. MM and Rebel Yell are out there. The other stuff not so much. I don't even want to mention that one brand.

I'm thinking more of a preference or favorite, than what you can normally drink due to availability or price.

My originally thought of doing this is that could our preference on SB.com be very different to what the market is providing and then why isn't the company listening to what we are saying.

For example, could wheater be a big preference here and why isn't there a greater selection and offering for that or also for aged rye?

As other mentioned, I also loved wheater and aged rye, but the offering is greatly less than standard rye bourbon.

This would be a different topic since my next thought is that on SB.com, our educated taste preference may be very different from the general mass. And then why would that be?

This is why the poll first to gather the data on SB.com preference or favorite.

+1

I like rye, high rye bourbon, wheater bourbon, and haven't had any aged rye yet.

Very much like the poll idea and today I voted for the rye bourbon but tomorrow I could vote for the wheat, and the day after the aged rye, etc

FYI, I've not voted but I placed a 2 week expiration on this one instead of keeping it open ended.

Will be interesting to see if tastes change over time.

But if I'm not near the whisky I'm fond of then I'm fond of the whisky I'm near.

Words to live by.

Can't choose! Depends on the whiskey and my mood - kind of a "love the one you're with" thing. All can be outstanding.

It is a bit too general for me. But making it more specific would certainly be very complicated.

I selected aged rye because I have liked many of those and of the four broad categories available this appeals the most. But what is the dividing line between rye and aged rye? 6 years? 10 years? 12 years? And do we distinguish between the barely rye ryes versus the mostly rye ryes?

And what about the distinction between rye bourbon and "aged" rye bourbon? Or aged wheat bourbon?

Or rye bourbon from one distillery compared to another? High rye content versus low rye content?

Truth is, like many others, I like them all at different times and don't really have a single favorite.

It'll be nice to have data of this poll every 4-5 years to see how or if the preference changes. With different members and also what are available in the market, I suspect this changes with those two parameters directly.

I just like corn. The more corn the better, so low rye and wheated bourbons are my preference. Can I vote for that?

Man, this is like asking someone to pick his or her favorite child. If push comes to shove, count me in for a high rye mashbill bourbon--or at least a rye-forward bourbon--any day of the week. I love trying to pick apart all the interesting spice notes oak and rye lay onto the corny sweetness of bourbon.

On second thought, let's just say that they're all my favorite, but rye bourbons play all the same sports I did growing up.

For me the ranking is:

1- Aged rye

2- Rye bourbon

3- Straight rye

4- Wheat bourbon

VWFRR and Saz 18 are my two favorite pours of all-time.
