For me the ranking is:

1- Aged rye

2- Rye bourbon

3- Straight rye

4- Wheat bourbon

VWFRR and Saz 18 are my two favorite pours of all-time.

I'm on the other end, but I agree that both of those are stellar pours - enough so that I'd be just fine with only those two even though I prefer wheated and rye bourbons.

An impossible question, but a fun discussion. The Devil, as always, is in the details. If we're talking Larceny, Wild Turkey 101, Rittenhouse and Rathskeller - I'll take the Rathskeller. If we're talking HHSS, Evan Williams, Baby Saz, and Willett 24/94 - I'll take the HHSS. I've got a little of everything (but not much old rye) but the pours I frequent most often are things like GTS, ECBP, and barrel proof Four Roses, so I went with good ol' rye recipe bourbon.

However, at least half of the 10 best whiskeys I've ever sipped were either wheat recipe or straight rye. When we're talking about the highest highs, they're all good, but i'm mostly drinking traditional bourbon.

Fair and good points. Thanks
