Thig
I am in stage 3 but occasionally lapse back into stage 1, I am a sucker for limited releases.Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Harry in WashDC
Step 1-buying every limited release and oddity there is because you are a poserStep 2-Actually taking time to begin to understand the hobby and realizing you made a lot of ignorant purchases off of what you'd read and what others had told you.Step 3-Becoming comfortable in your own skin and buying things only in the profile that you truly enjoy and will drink in the future.Step 4-Finally coming to terms with yourself and begin putting an effect bunker together that you will actually drink and not just stare at.

I guess that makes me a "chronic" poser! I never take a serious interest in a hobby without trying to understand it thoroughly and know I have made what others might think of as "ignorant purchases" (I rarely do) and yet I am perfectly comfortable in my own skin and expect to drink (and share) every one of them in the future while my slowly evolving bunker is stuff I will actually drink and not just stare since as I noted I drink everything! OK, I do still occasionally stare at it...Does that put me in Step 5?
WAINWRIGHT
Even after 10 years I haven't figured out where the hell I'm at either but I'm slowly getting better.I just lie to myself on a daily basis to justify my purchases and pretend I've grown for the better.Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

sailor22
Respectfully submitting a different step sequence; Step 1a - Buying every limited release and oddity because your curious about what they taste like and they aren't stocked in any bar within a 5 hour drive. Step 1b - Buying every dusty you see on the shelf because your driven by the same curiosity. Step 1c - Sampling every Bourbon you can find for sale by the pour, buying the ones you like. Step 2 - Realizing that most special releases aren't really all that special. Your curiosity begins to wain, but you would hate to miss a great one. Step 3 - Buying multiples of the ones that stand out to you because a) They will never be cheaper or they won't be available ever again. Step 4 - You realize you have a deep bunker and lots and lots of open bottles of Bourbon, Rum, Armagnac and Cognac. You don't stare at anything you have bunkered because it's stashed out of sight but you start to invite friends over regularly and enjoy drinking really good whiskey with friends. Now that is a sequence that sounds remarkably familiar to me!
