Any rare finds here? I know they aren't the highest "quality" Bourbons. Only one that is opened is the old grand dad. post-11081-14489820682961_thumb.jpg

"Any rare finds here?".

All of them! Give some taste notes friend, there is a special thread for this now called Dusty Tasting Notes.

Yes, that's a very good selection, the vintage Heaven Hill 90 proof is just a step below the BIBs, the Grand Dad is ND and the Rebel Yell contains Stitzel-Weller distillate. The Beam I can't tell much about, guessing it contains Beam's Choice, I'm not familiar with the Southern Manor but all appear to be solid choices, your Dad had good tastes.

Rebel Yell is likely Stitzel. That's good.

Old Grand-Dad is likely National. That's good.

Wild Turkey is an age-stated 8-year-old. That's good.

Southern Manor was a Southern Comfort knock-off. Don't drink it. Liqueurs, unlike straight spirits, can go bad over time, and it probably wasn't much good to begin with.

Heaven Hill. Probably okay, but nothing special.

The Beam might be good but ceramic containers are always dicey.

Thanks guys! Yeah it's Beam Choice.

I'd second drink them all but the SM. Chuck beat me to it. You can't pay me enough to drink that stuff!

Couldn't pay me enough either but I had a 24 year old blonde assistant who could talk me into damn near anything.

You guys think there is any chances in hell I could trade the Beam and WT for a Bookers 25, William Weller, Stagg, or Van Winkle? Might not hurt to put the bottles on bottle spot?

The only thing I'd do with that Turkey is drink it....

Nah dude just drink them, i dont think you will find a trade for it, but more importantly if you put in the time you will eventually be able to grab those bottles your looking for on your own. And to me dusty finds are up there with snagging a limited edition (I've never found an 8 year Turkey, but have found a Handy or Stagg around). Also Booker's 25th is still rolling out some place so odds of snagging one of them is still pretty high.

Anyway, good stuff all around

I would rather drink that 8 year old Turkey than any of the current releases you listed. Not even a contest.

Yeah, those are probably better than the shiny new releases, except maybe in proof. Plus, why trade away your dad's booze? They are your birthright! Don't tell the feds about them, they'll take em for themselves!

Why, indeed?!?! Keep it, drink it often, and think of him when you do.

Drink the OGD, WT 8 & Rebel Yell and thank us later. Seriously. There will always be more BTAC and VW. There will be no more of those, ever.

Thanks for everyone's feedback! I had no idea those old bottles good hold so much value in the bourbon community. In Cleveland it is damn near impossible to find those new bottles I listed. I have been dying to try those.

Curious, why are ceramic's dicey? My sister-in-law has a couple of old Beam ceramics that I want open in my presence.

The value is in the experience that you may never have again...and it's just plain good stuff even when compared to the bottles you seek.

You never know what condition the contents are in until you open them, they seem to have more problems with corks, and you will likely injest a little lead with your booze.

They were made for show rather than long term storage. Contracts were probably not let to the highest bidder and manufacturing tolerances in the interior width of the neck did not always make for the best seal. Glass will mold stable, ceramics shrink when fired and are thus less controllable.

This. That turkey is probably better than anything you mentioned maybe other than the Weller. And there's no chance you'd get a WLW for it.

This honestly is one of the best responses to a thread in a long time.........fishing or not with the original post.I truly enjoy a lot of the older dusty bourbons out there, not necessarily because they are the best but just different. You honestly have to put in retrospect the fact that you may be drinking something that may be as old as you or even older and that in itself is a great experience.

You really should have someone from Cleveland help you drink those bottles.
