Back on Dec. 7, 2013--a date that will live in infamy--I posted about receiving a legacy of 1954 Seagram's VO. Well, lightning has struck again. This afternoon I received several bottles of whisky as well as some old sherry and port from the estate of our friend Annabelle who died on Feb. 5 at age 101. Among the whisky is a 25 oz. bottle of Crown Royal with tax stamp unbroken but also undated. It came in its original blue bag with a Certificate of Registration #F144568 that proclaims "This rare whisky has been custom blended in small quantities" and "Each bottle has been numbered and registered by Seagram Master Blenders."

Other Canadian whiskies include a liter of Canadian Club from 1980 and 1.14 L of Seagram's 83 6YO from 1975.

Gary Gillman has observed that the Canadians have "perfected the art of the subtle blend." Too subtle for my bourbon saturated palate. Our friends Sandy and Bill are fans so tomorrow we are taking these treasures to their place on Lake Erie to welcome in the spring. (I think I'll take some ETL just in case my trigeminal nerve requires stimulation.)

Nice, but take a current bottle of Crown too, and/or CC. Taste test please!

I've got a 1969 Crown Royal bottle that I'll happily bring to the gazebo if anyone wants to do a side by side with a current offering.

I've had 60's era Crown and it was very bourbony in character. Much different than the current Canadian expressions.

I have a relatively current bottle plus one from maybe 20-25 years ago that I can bring. I think I posted about them a while back but can't find it at the moment.

Are you not going to make it to the gazebo Gary? Had my dusty Cutty Sark and Peach Brandy's lined up and ready to go!

Very kind Bruce but I won't be able to make it unfortunately. Thanks for thinking of me but you guys carry the flag. I will be there in September for KBF for sure.

Ah, sorry to hear that. I will unfortunately miss the KBF in September as I will be out of the country chasing the ghost of Marco Polo down the Silk Road! That is if Delta doesn't try to screw up my flight plans again.
