soad
Lets not hope I fall TOO in love with the HHBiB when I get it. Yesterday (less than 24 hours after I posted this) I noticed it was gone from the special order page. Either I got the last ones or this post clued some people in and it was bought up. They still have a lot of others I need to try anyways. Old Fitz 1849, Old Forester 100, fighting Co**They still have the handles listed on there. It would be $75 for three but is still worth it if you like the juice.

I only have the 80pr right now, and its ok and plentiful, so before I would commit to purchasing 5.25 Liters of it I at least will wait to try the 4 bottles I have coming. Beside those will last me long enough, and I have always been a diversity over quantity. I'd get tired of the same pour every night of the week. Now I am intruiged with the idea of taking some OldFitzBiB and cutting it down to see if it would possibly resemble Larceny. Don't think I can get it, but I do plan to get some of the 1849 just to try.
PaulO
HH has a couple other brands worth looking into (I don't know if they are in PA). JTS Brown and JW Dant are both 4 year old 100 proof bonds. Also there is Henry McKenna 10 year old bond. It's a little more expensive (low $30s). If you're going to get Old Fitz, I'd say get the 100 proof bond, or Larceny. 393foureyedfox
Well, all except for that one HH product, anyway Did things work out so you can make it down to Bardstown? Ha! You don't soon forget, do you? He's referring to my nearly yearlong search for ECBP only to find it to be one of the worst things Ive had to date (2nd release, 137 proof). But, again, I am in the minority here. No, I'm not gonna make it to B-town this weekend. Other social events going on that interest me more, but thanks for asking! It's a gift and a curse. I didn't make it to Kentucky this weekend so I won't be there either. Shooting for September, hope to see you there. jmj_203
Squire called it. I will crack one this weekend in case I need to get the handles before they're gone. Will report my thoughts when I taste, after whiping them down from pa distributor dust.
jvd99
I picked up 3 HH BIB white labels when I did the Bourbon Trail last year b/c it's not available in Chicago. Very enjoyable, especially over ice. You can't go wrong with sampling this one.

Very enjoyable, especially over ice. You can't go wrong with sampling this one.Yeah we can't get BiB white here either, only Ky I thought. Our white label HH is 80 proof and 36 month stated, not horrible but not something I have to have on hand, unless you only have $10 for a bottle. Figured this is worth a try as the only available HHBiB here, it doesn't state an age on the bottle and was only around 11 apiece so I'll give it a whirl. squire
I can get just about every BIB HH makes if I include a 200 mile radius.
PaulO
Some stores in Indiana sometimes have the white label 6 year old HH BIB. Also, I've started to see some EW BIB, and the new label Henry McKenna. After the rumors Old Fitz BIB was "going away" I recently saw a store get a bunch more in.
jmj_203
I can get just about every BIB HH makes if I include a 200 mile radius.Yeah I can always drive, don't have the time to cross state lines but all business trips are that much more fun now exploring new stores. I've gathered about 75 percent of available bourbons here, starting to settle down acquiring to find all the best to my palate for the best price. I can't complain about availability, I haven't found a single bourbon that isn't at least good to me, I forget how good we have it being all so close relatively to the source. Now I'm sure I will one day encounter a flat out nasty bourbon, just haven't yet with 41 bottles in my closet.
jmj_203
So I had my first sample pour of this ohh tonight. Gotta say I'm pretty impressed. It doesn't have the nose of a lot of new current bourbons, but the taste is as good as what I bought of recent releases at 25 to 30 bucks a 750ml. Doesn't detract value that its 100 proof. It has this really interesting almost mint, maybe some herbal aftertaste I cant describe after just my first pour but its very good. The corn taste and smell is much less than current bourbons which I like, also less sweetness which I like.I'm sending an email to grab 3 handles if they have it left. Insane I paid 40 for 4 bottles, this isnt whats on shelves anymore here. Thecurrent 80 proof white label is watered down unaged blah in my state. Score. 393foureyedfox
theyre definitely worth $10. the white 100 is a bit better, but not drastically different. if nothing else, theyre great primers for a fun night
jonnyd
I did a non-blind back to back with Woodford Distillers Select and HH 6/90. The HH won! I do like a little more sweetness in my bourbons most of the time so it kinda figures. Not much difference in that burn in the chest though. Cannot beat the Green 6/90 for the price. 393foureyedfox
Last april, I snuck a HH 6/90 into a blind tasting at a large party. I was as green as the bottle at the time, with regards to bourbon experience, but I was curious to see how a cheap, overlooked, age stated, bourbon that no one would admit buying, would fare against other mainstreamers. I also snuck in an OGD 114, as it was the BOTM at the time. I was both surprised that the 6/90 ranked, on average, 3rd out of 9........and that OGD114 was consistently last. squire
Doesn't surprise me Doug. Most people don't like the taste of alcohol and equate lack of burn with quality.
rndenks
I recently picked up a HH White 6yr BIB, and have been very impressed after two pours. Looking forward to more time with it soon. The HH line will be something I explore further in the near future.
jmj_203
Really not surprising with what I've experienced in my few months, but after a few days this first bottle is acquiring the nose I enjoy. Wierd it had little smell that first pour, but its opening up. Either way its great as my first daily pour, and I have over 5 Liters en route so this will be a safe drink for years for me. so different from current bourbons on the shelf in Pa
jmj_203
Well those were the last 4 in Pa. I tried to buy 3 1.75 handles and the state employee sent back an email stating "unfortunately our distributor is out of stock and has no idea when they will get more" so it will probably be removed from the state special order page. oh well at least I have 4 750's to enjoy, just have to find something else to order. Old forester bib maybe next, would try fighting cock but minmum order is 12, thats a bit much at 20 apiece
393foureyedfox
what about other HH bib's?Dant, Samuels, Fitz, etc...
amg
If you like Woodford you'll probably like the Old Forester 100. If you're looking for more HH product, the EW BIB is a good one.
jmj_203
what about other HH bib's?Dant, Samuels, Fitz, etc...I don't think I can get any other HH bibs. Fitz was removed last month from special order page, all thats left is fitz 1849 which I have 4 bottles of. EWBiB we can't get either, but Ive heard people are seeing it in new areas. FC was really the only other HH BiB (I know not technically BiB) in pa I think.I don't mind 90 proof just prefer BiBs. I wish we would get Larceny soon, maybe its distribution will expand here also.JW Dant isnt available in any form here, what is Samuel's?
