I haven't had the new stuff but I love the WT-03-RB. Gonna be hard to beat IMO.

$40 here, I think down the line I may try it, I love the higher proof stuff

Sadly, our PA state stores have put it on closeout
Well, the silver lining to that is you can now buy a bunch of bottles of it for $24 in August - if its still on the shelves.

When PA lists items on closeout, you can get items 35% off until its gone off the shelves forever.

You guys are lucky, closeouts don't mean much here, in fact I always laugh when binnys has a sign on the EC 12y that says sale $29.99 lol that's not a sale lol

Reminds me of the guy who had a going out of business sale . . . every year.

Oriental rug stores in NYC perfected the art of the perpetual going-out-of-business sale.

Around here, very little American whiskey goes on closeout (at least the stuff that any of us would be willing to drink...), and most of the stores that have the better brands don't put them on sale.

On topic, now I have to buy one of the outgoing WTRB and one of the new stuff, because how else will I know which one to chase? :)

I know what you're saying Joe, I really like it also. But my first impression of the new bottling, I like it better. I need to do a side by side

There are some stores in Times Square that have been going out of business since 1965.

New label showed up at Total Wine in Albuquerque yesterday, so I picked one up to compare to aan open WT03RB bought at the same store a month or two ago. My wife helped me with a blind side by side. RB is one of my favorites so the change has had me wondering.

I found the WT03RB to have a bit more of a viscous buttery mouthfeel, and started with heavy butterscotch and caramel, with a long brown sugar and oak tannin finish. The new version had an explosion of the same flavors and just seemed more bright and alive, the finish was a bit more heavy on the oak, and while still a nice viscous mouthfeel, the buttery texture was not as evident.

Overall, I found the 03RB to be a bit more mellow, and with more subtle flavors, while the new version was in your face and bold with the same profile, but more direct and immediate flavors.

I gave a slight nod to the newer version, though I think there are times I would prefer the subtlety's of the older.

"Bright and alive" great description! Every pour from this new bottle seems better than the last.

Until I find a change I'll have a least one bottle on stand-by.

Thanks to SB member Luv2hunt for aasembling this list. I copied this from an older post I found as it may be of interest to those discussing the latest change. I for one didn't know there were this many iterations of RB. Very interesting indeed and this most recent version is the highest proof to date.Wild Turkey:

I just got some of the new 112.8 but have not tried it.

There is a fascinating range of opinions here! But I am starting to feel that this is the norm on whisk(e)y forums (and music forums and art forums and camping forums and blah blah blah).

Of course. It makes sense...we are talking about the senses here. And the sense of taste is especially difficult to be objective about. We are subjective critters. We all see the world of taste and especially, liquor, differently. I have no problem with that until someone tries to force their "correct" opinion on others. (It does not happen often here.)

Did not care for the new bottling at all. But I haven't gone back to it in awhile. May remedy that tonight.

It still sucks,no need honestly.I thought I learned my lesson after the RRSmBSB but obviously not.

I recently had a SBS of new RB112 and RRSmbSB (oofha if anything ever needed an acronym...) Being a SB bottling the RR was to my taste much better than the new RB. I had planned to grab a 112RB but instead I will get a bottle of the RR. Don't know how much variation will present in this line but the one I tried ( ATL area store pick) was stellar IMO.

My first three pours or so were not great - too much heat masking flavors even with a little water added. After that, either my palate adjusted or it oxidized some because it became a wonderful pour which I've enjoyed greatly. Hopefully this happens for you.
