Good response. The tales of great whiskey of yesteryear are enticing. I take some consolation by thinking that I might come upon some dusties en shelf some day and have a taste of the slightly more distant past.

I have zero shame or regret about bunkering what I like today, that may not be available tomorrow. So what if there's a good bottle on my shelf - one of it's brothers is open on the bar.

I couldn't help but be a bourbon saver anyway - I buy it far faster than I could drink it. But there will be a phase where I say "yup, I'm good" and I'll enjoy coasting on reserves. People say "yeah, right" but I have reached this point before in other hobbies, so I have experience with this expectation.

Agree completely. Bourbon isn't getting any cheaper, so I justify stocking up on favorites at good prices or hard-to-find bottles where possible, even though I may not plan to open them for years. Though I'm getting to the point where my open bottles (25ish) are getting too numerous, and my bunker (50-60) is getting pretty full. I'm instituting a new policy whereby I will only allow myself to purchase bottles of limited releases until I drink some of it down. Although at times it seems (particularly to onlookers) that I have way too much already, it's probably only about 2-3 years worth of consumption, so it's not really that big of a deal. I'm sure my bunker isn't nearly as large as many folks on SB.

plus, I'm still in my late 20s; I've got plenty of time to drink the stuff.

I am a little a both. I always try to buy multiple bottles of interesting whiskey so I can save some and enjoy some now.

I do not buy to sale and try to keep it simple.

I buy what I want when I can, so that I can drink what I want when I can.
