How do you get discounts/deals on bourbon?

A store near my work which I frequent advertises with a 10% off coupon on the back of receipts from the nearby grocery store. So I will go to the grocery store, buy the cheapest item I can to get a receipt (which usually has 2-3 coupons, depending on the size of the receipt) and then go right to the liquor store and use it. I can spend 75 cents on Tic-Tacs to save $4-5 bucks on a bottle of bourbon.

So, what are ways that you have found to get discounts/deals on the bourbon you buy?

When I'm out of town I kiss a lot of ass and hope the owner notices. There's no hope for discounts in Ahia.

Well in Pa we can only hit up state run liquor stores. They run new sale items every month, which is nice to print out a pdf every month and see which bottles are coming home in large quantities. Pretty decent selection every month, like this month WT 101 750s are 5 bucks off, OGD BiB 1.7 liters are 32.99, etc. So I just stock up when my regulars are on sale and I'm good for the year.

We're blessed with a great whiskey-monger who provides a discount to some of us, but how that came about . . . I have no idea (but have never wanted to ask for fear they will scratch their heads and retract it!)

The question is, discounts from what? The state guarantees that we will never "over pay" for liquor. We won't "under pay" either. I don't quarrel nearly as much about the price as I do about selection. I resent the fact that bureaucrats get to decide what I might choose to buy. Most of my bourbon dollars get spent in KY with another significant portion spent at Costco and Total Wine wherever we happen to be.

With that said, I still don't understand how Blanton's can be purchased by MauiSon in Hawaii for $20 less than the OH price.

I agree completely. Believe we are the same, price is set across the state, along with monthly sales and guaranteeing you wont Underpay, they are going to make theirs being in full control. The selection thing ticks me off also here in Pa. They have most bourbons I want, but nothing special is ever available.

Here's a hint, just ask for the straightbourbon.com discount for 10% off all bourbon purchases.

Buy by the case.
Yes, many stores offer this discount. t doesn't hurt to ask. Mostly, my solution is to have a number of different stores that I visit. It seems nowadays selection, or lack of it, is a bigger deal to me.

The discount was much appreciated with no ass kissing required. :)

For those who have not visited, Eric has a really nice store in E-town. It is definitely worth a stop if you're in the area, especially if you are a beer fan in addition to bourbon.

Thanks for the kind words. Beer is my first passion!

Great store and owner. If you don't have a bottle of Eric's OBSK pick...you are missing out.

I couldn't agree with this more! The selection of whisk(e)y in Ohio is bulls**t, to put it mildly.
