Give me your opinions on the different OGD proofs. Everyday value pour ranking?

I ask this because I hear a lot of talk about OGD 114 on the forums but ive never seen it in person last week I seen a BIB 100proof so I picked it up when I fired started reading the forums and hearing all the OGD talk I picked up a bottle of the 80 or whatever the lowest proof is because that's all I ever see ive never seen the 114.

Anyways I thought the 80 was pretty blah, my everyday is WT101 and I don't feel that either of the OGD I've had holds a candle compared but that's just my opinion so im curious from you guys who have drank more of it and tried the 114 I hear so much about on here is it your everyday pour if not what is and how would you rate it compared to your favorite?

thanks

I've only had the 100 and 114. I like the 114 a lot more.

OWA

ETL

FRSB

...tend to be ones I reach for most often. OGD114 certainly ranks with those.

The 114 is much different than the bib. I think of the BIB as "bright" tasting (vanilla, citrus, rye) while the 114 was "darker" (Rye spice, burnt brownies, maybe cinnamon).

The 80 proof was fairly recently lowered to that, as it had once been 86... not really worth the price anymore compared to others in that range (IMO).

Honestly... the 114 reminds me a bit more of the Wild Turkey profile, so you may enjoy it.

I haven't had an OGD yet that is as good as WT101, at least the first pour of WT101 out of the bottle. Within the range, I like the BiB better for the price than the 114. It's $30 for a handle, while the 114 runs $21-27 for a 750, and I don't get any additional complexity from the 114, just a little bit more caramel and a slightly thicker mouthfeel. They both end up in my wife's old fashioned bottle anyway, while I find WT101 is entertaining without a mixer.

114>BiB>86 (if you can find it) >80>Basil Hayden

I'm with Josh here, although it has been some time since I've had BH and have never had the new 80 but see little reason to try it. The 114 and BiB are very close for me. The last I had a Basil was in a Manhattan at a restaurant and it was completely lost in the drink. I like the 86 at times -

114OGD a value pour? one of the best bangs for the buck.

114OGD a daily pour? not for me as a daily pour. Its a very rich and brooding pour to me, and enjoy it from time to time quite a bit!

114 is tops for me, and I don't even give consideration to the other OGD's....Then, I jump to Basil Hayden as my number 2.

I am gonna go against the grain here and say I prefer the 100. The 114, although good, taste too much like a rye to me. The 80 or 86 I never had (why bother?) and Basil Hayden is just...a sad shell of potential.

I'm with Joe in his order of the universe here. I like Basil, with Basil. It's not good with anything else added.

There are two brands that I have/will keep in the freezer and drink straight out of the bottle. Dickel 12 and BH. Call it summer water if you will, as I don't find myself doing it any other time of the year!

The 100 is my choice for daily use. For cocktails or mixing the BIB is just a bit more balanced than the 114.

OGD BiB and 86 are listed as 3 years old on our state site, while WT101 is an 8 yr age listing so I can see why most have a preference for WT over OGD. I havent had the 114 yet but enjoy OGDBiB as a cheap pour here and there, its not a favorite by any means as I can drink ec12, BT, ER10 at close prices but it has a place on my shelf.

Sorry meant OGD BiB and 80 proof listed at 4 years old, while WT101 shows 8. What are the assumed ages of the OGD squire? Or you mean the WT isn't 8 anymore? I know neither states on the bottle, and won't be suprised the website contains errors as I've seen several other typos.

I drink OGD BiB quite often. I have never seen a bottle or tasted the 114 because apparently, we aren't allowed to have it in Ohio. I also drink WT101 a lot. I like them both equally well.

WT 101 isn't 8 unless it says so on the label. Grand Dad BIB is between 4-6 and 114 6-8 or at least that's how they taste to me. At one time these had age statements as well but that was many moons ago.

I really enjoy the OGD114 and the ODBIB a lot. There is always one open on my bar. The only sub 90 that I like is 4RYL and I don't buy that very often.

OGD 114 is one of my favorite high rye bourbons. It's not hard to find or too expensive. I like OGD BIB, but not quite as much as the 114. The others are not very interesting to me.

I swear that site is produced by 19 year-old summer interns.

If the WT101 was 8 in the past they likely just never removed it. I mean what do they change it to..."used to be 8 but now we make no claims as to the minimum age of our bourbon, but its at least over 3 years old." Thats pretty much every brand now so nothing against any particular brand as long as I like the taste.

It's been over a decade since WT101 was 8 years old.

Bourbons without an age statement must be at least 4 years old, not 3. Wild Turkey loves advertising that theirs is at least 5 (oooooooh).

I'm guessing that the listing of WT at 8 years is due to laziness or lack of knowledge. Here in Indiana most of the store labels for Noah's Mill say that it's 15 years even though that hasn't been true for a while. If the UPC didn't change, then why change the tags?

God dammit Squire - I thought you were a 114 man and I was planning my end of month purchases accordingly :)

BIB it is. At least it's easier to find. I've found some 114, but with the freedom of BIB I have more latitude to reward my fave store owners.
