LoL, sorry I forgot to check back in on my own thread. Yeah I have some pics of the back label, seems the same as dcbt's so I can confirm what he posted. These just started showing up in my area, they are all thats available here now it seems, and the NEW neck label only contains STARS running around it. No "single barrel" there. The back label DOES still say "10 years old" or something about aged 10 years. However, I will not be surprised to see that eventually disappear. Now if I can find my label on dropbox.

Now I won't panic, and I'll admit as long as its 10 years old, I don't mind if they have to mingle a few barrels to keep a much more consistent bourbon. As opposed to hearing reports of people just thinking ER was awful when they got an awful bottle. Plus we've all been hearing that there has been WIDE variation as of the last few years in ER. So maybe they just dropped the single barrel status, and since they had to alter the neck label to do that....well gents lets take away the designation of 10 on the neck....just incase. OH well as long as the back says it, I'll still keep 1 or 2 bottles on hand. And I'll report my thoughts when I open this bottle, but ER usually seems to take a week or two after opening before I start thinking the pours taste great.

Another confirmation: I just bought two bottles with no mention of single barrel anywhere. These were bought from high volume store in a region that has had a ER shortage for months. When I say shortage, I mean not a single store was getting ER. These were the first shipment in.

Must be running out of barrels that match the profile (like the rest of their products). Going to just be a premium BT now?

Yeah these are in markets that have been empty of ER for awhile, thats how my locals were. So the retailers that got restocked again all have these. This is the newest ER. We'll see how reviews are as we open them, but I have confidence....maybe.

I suppose they gotta mix those OC10 barrels in there without changing the profile too much!

Why bother to keep good barrels back for $29 Eagle Rare when they can use them for $50 Stagg Jr a few years sooner?

Thanks for the pic Josh. Since Molten Lava and jmj_203's pics show letters next to the 10 on the neck label it appears any talk on it no longer being a single barrel is also incorrect. So for all the SB aspersion casters waiting to pounce...still 10 year and still a single barrel.

Of course I don't even much drink it so why do I care???.

Okay then, no longer single barrel but still 10 years old...till...

Why indeed, I wouldn't.

Not that I don't know better, but squire I know you must have a stash to last till the end of dusty age stated bottles to be honest about capitalist business practices.

I just bought my first bottle of Eagle Rare 10 in Minneapolis, MN. The store I went to had about 10 bottles, with the 10 year age statement on the neck of the bottle with single barrel also included. Dark label on the back of the bottle. I started the night with Elmer T. Lee, and compared to that great bourbon, I am getting a bit more spice, oak and vanilla. Overall, better than I was expecting considering the barrel variation indicated by other users.

I've probably written this elsewhere but the last ER10 I had was really poor, overaged and unbalanced. Batching can hardly prove worse, right,?

Welcome Jazz Nut... I'm also in the area (NW suburbs). Are you a jazz listener or player?

ER use to be my favorite. But I have two bottles that were just ok... One was boarder line bad.

My favorite store just picked a barrel. I'm hoping it is as good as the one they had last year. If so I'm gonna stock up!

Hey, I listen and play. I mostly do either cover/variety band gigs with Brass Menagerie, big band gigs, with the Wolverines Classic Jazz Orchestra, Explosion Big Band (playing at the Twin Cities Jazz Festival this year), and random freelance gigs---for example today, I am playing a 5.5 hour POLKA gig....wowzers!

Hi,

Here are the pics of my bottle. It appears still to be marked with the 10 year age statement, and Single Barrel marking, as well as the dark back label. Is this bourbon from past yearly releases?

Presume so. In fact that may be one iteration back in the label changes.

Just saw ER on the shelf at a local store with a mix of the ones marked single barrel and the ones with stars on the neck band. At least it doesn't say "SB" on the neck band...

Or "Barrel Aged" I love seeing that on labels.

I wonder if you could put "Single Barrels" on a label (not saying how many barrels, but none were married or otherwise partnered at the time of the vatting).

It is accurate to say all the whisky in the big vat was poured from single barrels.

If one of the major distilleries releases a bourbon that is advertised as the Big Vat Edition I will surely buy a bottle.

  • 5 weeks later...

I was talking today to my primary retailer and he just got back from a trip he took down to BT for a barrel program. He was told that they are keeping the 10 year aging but doing away the "single barrel" qualification. The reason given is they are transitioning ER to a new higher speed bottling line that cannot work with single barrel. At least it sounds plausible. Time to stock up!
