I already knew that MGP made some liquor at its Atchison, Kans. facility, but for some reason I assumed that all its whiskey came from Lawrenceburg. An article in Shanken this morning, however, strongly implies that at least some of its whiskey comes from Kansas. Am I reading too much into that? Does anyone know what they make at the Atchison plant?

Sounds like the new flavored whiskeys. Not sure if other alcoholic beverage products are distilled there.

"ATCHISON, Kan., May 27, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MGP has announced the addition of 14 new Distilled Spirit Specialty "Select Blend Whiskeys" to the company's portfolio of world-class beverage alcohol offerings. The additions include matches to six traditional whiskeys that represent a broad range of whiskeys from around the globe, and eight flavored whiskeys that have been developed for one of the fastest growing segments in the spirits industry. Among the latter are selections that feature cinnamon, apple, black licorice, honey and butterscotch flavored varieties."

"The addition of the Select Blend Whiskeys was preceded last summer by MGP's introduction of grain neutral spirits (GNS) distilled from wheat. Described by Dykstra as having "an exceptionally smooth taste, pleasant mouth feel and very neutral odor," this new product is being produced at the company's distillery in Atchison, Kan., where MGP is headquartered."

If I needed a place to make a wheat distillate Kansas would probably be near the top of my list.

MAKES LOGISTICAL SENSE.......take a large product at its production source, concentrate it, and ship it out from there.

MGP makes no whiskey in Kansas. Its only whiskey distillery is Lawrenceburg, Indiana. It is, however, now making flavored whiskey and acquiring foreign whiskey. If they are flavoring their own whiskey, it is whiskey they made in Lawrenceburg, but it's possible the base for the flavored whiskey is something they acquired from another distillery. Kansas just happens to be their headquarters.

Yes, well "Is being produced" is not the same as is being distilled but we're talking about a base for flavored liquor here so my care level is below noticeable.
