Have any of you guys ever tried this with bourbon?

http://www.fedex.com/us/services/hold_at_location_overview.html

This would seem to be the easiest way around the loophole of many states not allowing shipment of booze. Have the product shipped to the FedEx location in a state that allows shipment of alcohol, and go pick it up. That seems almost too easy...and yes, I live very close to a state that allows shipment. Any catch here before I actually try it?

I have done it with wine, using ups boxes, but never bourbon.

Pretty sure the Fedex 'Hold at Location' option is still going to have your address on the shipping label, so the store will probably reject your order anyway. Do you have any friends on the other side of the state line? Maybe you could get a P.O. Box or something?

This is what I was afraid of. Do you think if this store is willing to ship it to the FedEx address (given that my billing address will be in a forbidden state) that FedEx will hassle me when I show up? I've thought of P.O. Box, etc., but this way seems really easy.

I definitely would NOT do the PO box idea, as it is clearly illegal to use a federal government-run delivery system to ship alcohol....it is implicitly banned to ship alcohol via usps. fedex/ups say they dont ship alcohol, but they dont ask either.

that said, I wouldnt ship alcohol any way. I'd be the one guy in a million to get caught and made an example of (though you guys do it every day). The above idea of shipping it to a friend across the state line is better.

Come on buddy. Sack up fox. Do you speed? Ever smoke a joint? Underage drink ever? All laws most people have broken. Not sure where the alcohol police are but I'm pretty sure they'd be nailing some 'prolific shippers' on Facebook and leave you and I alone. Plus of all the laws on the books I've broken, this would be the smallest penalty. I'm a shipper and receiver. Call it civil disobedience. Henry David Thoreau would approve :)

Not much left to say after this. :)

Well it makes me ponder and wonder....what Thoreau was smoking, dropping, drinking, and/or snorting out on Walden Pond?

He sure wasn't there just for the pony rides and cotton candy.

DrinkupNY wouldn't allow me to place an order using my Bank issued Visa, even though i was shipping it to my Brother-in-law in a state they ship to.

They were nice enough to tell me they would happily accept a PayPal payment though.

when you get into a profession where, every year, you have to list EVERYTHING youve done, been charged with, or even accused of, and then explain it and hope to keep your license, you can talk to me about what you're willing to do or not.

I might do 5 over a speed limit, never smoked a thing, and never drank til I was about 30........

when one person decides not to obey rules, everyone follows suit soon after, and you soon find yourself surrounded by douchebags. I choose not to be the douchebag ringleader.

I surround myself everyday with people who do not obey every single rule. I consider none of them douchebags. You seem to paint a lot of people with a very wide brush. Not sure it's this cut and dry...

You realize that quite a few of us here break this particular stupid law on the regular, yeah? I never feel surrounded by douchebags here...

The funny part is that I used to have a box at a UPS store in indiana, where wineries would ship wine because they weren't allowed to ship to Kentucky...what's funny about it is that they weren't allowed to ship to Indiana, either, they just did it anyway (but not kentucky). My busienss partner on the website lives in Ohio, though (Cincy), so Technically, I can just have most stuff shipped there since their laws are less ridiculous than either KY ir IN.

I haven't tried that yet....mainly because I'm sure that by the time I got around to getting up to cincy, at least half the wine/liquor would mysteriously have vanished.

OMG the sky is falling the sky is falling!!

Receiving a UPS or FedEx package at a private PO box isn't using a government run delivery service to ship alcohol. Check out PakMail or any of a few others like UPSStore.

A former member shipped me a couple of bottles in a poorly packaged box via USPS years back and one bottle didn't survive the trip. Believe it or not, I arrived home to a bourbon soaked box in a plastic USPS tote and not a postal inspector.

Of course, I'm not a lawyer so YMMV. Just beware of some members tendency toward FUD.

They just can't seem to help themselves.

A box at a UPS store or the like will work. A PO box at the post office will not as UPS and FedEx don't deliver to PO boxes. Call the vendor and ask.
